Description
Position Summary:
The Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for providing recovery coaching services for participants enrolled at Birmingham Drug Court. The Peer Recovery Specialist works closely with the Treatment Coordinator and the Chief Operating Officer to accomplish the mission and service goals of Aletheia House.
Primary Responsibilities:
-To provide peer mentoring and/or coaching for clients enrolled in a substance use disorder program at Birmingham Drug Court
-To provide recovery resource connecting.
-To facilitate and lead recovery groups as needed.
-To build positive relationships within the community.
-Assist the Therapist in helping program participants find needed community resources.
-To serve as a liaison between participants & connecting with other community organizations and resources.
-To assist program participants with solving problems directly related to recovery.
-To assist program participants with improving job skills.
-To transport participants to appointments & to assist them in obtaining community services.
-To maintain accurate, complete, & timely documentation of peer support activities.
-To maintain contact with participants between appointments & sessions.
-To attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
-To perform other duties as instructed by the Treatment Coordinator, Chief Operating Officer, and/or Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Good writing, communication, organizational and time management skills with knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
-Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
-Exceptional interpersonal skills to relate with clients, participants and resource providers.
-Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
-Ability to maintain harmonious effective working relationships with other employees.
Requirements
Qualifications:
-High School diploma or equivalent required.
-Must have 2 years of continuous documented sobriety & must be eligible to become certified as a Peer Support Specialist within 6 months of hire.
-Valid Alabama drivers' license, transportation, insurance, and good driving record required.
Travel:
-Must be willing to use and have your own personal transportation, light local travel required weekly. Mileage reimbursement for personal use of vehicle is included.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm; Hours may vary depending on the client and program needs.
