Job Description: Assistant Chief Engineer - Facilities Team at JLL
Overview
The Assistant Chief Engineer is a key member of the Facilities team at JLL, a leading global commercial real estate and investment management company. The Assistant Chief Engineer will support the Chief Engineer by leading the engineering teams day-to-day directives, third-party contracts, delegation of building operations, maintenance, and engineering services to ensure optimal performance and safety of all facility systems.
Essential Duties
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in managing daily operations of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems
  • Supervise and coordinate the operation engineering staff and contractors to ensure timely and effective completion of work orders and preventive maintenance responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain building automation systems to optimize energy efficiency and operational performance
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities to identify and address potential issues
  • Support the implementation of sustainability initiatives and compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide technical expertise to resolve building-related problems
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventories, and compliance documentation, as well as create all monthly CR's
  • Collaborate with property management, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality facility services
  • Participate in training and development programs to stay current with industry best practices and JLL standards
  • Co-lead weekly team meetings to ensure all day-to-day as well as business initiatives and training deadlines are being met

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. A degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Facility Management, or similar fields is highly preferred
  • 5+ years in commercial building operations, facility maintenance, or as a lead Operating Engineer.
  • Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Experience managing building automation systems.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in at least one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations) with multi-skilled capabilities in other areas
  • Ability to analyze system operations, diagnose problems, and implement corrective actions independently
  • Valid state driver's license and willingness to travel regularly to sites across Virginia
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 ft., work from heights, and perform frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and overhead work
  • Working knowledge of systems such as CFIMS, Corrigo, Workday, etc., these administrative systems are inclusive of 50% of this role
  • Ability to demonstrate strong mentor-style leadership to foster further education and accountability for the broader team dynamics
  • Available for emergency on-call situations as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Universal CFC EPA certification or commitment to achieving certification within the first year with JLL support
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams) for communication and work order management
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with tenants, site management, and contractors
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC)
  • JCAP certification (OCP or ESCP) or willingness to participate in the program
