Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a motivated and collaborative Civil Engineer who is interested in expanding their experience in water-focused civil engineering while working on diverse land development, recreation, and public infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for engineers with a background in site design, transportation, or general civil engineering who want to deepen their understanding of stormwater management, drainage, and sustainable water systems.

Working under the guidance of the Land Development Practice Lead and alongside experienced water resources professionals, you'll contribute to projects that support resilient communities-parks, trails, streetscapes, and municipal infrastructure-while building practical, in-demand skills in grading, stormwater, erosion control, and permitting. Mackin offers a supportive environment where curiosity, mentorship, and professional growth are encouraged.

ABOUT MACKIN:

Founded in 1960, Mackin is a multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting firm providing innovative solutions for public and private sector clients across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia. Our team is committed to integrity, quality, and excellence, and we pride ourselves on fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Support the planning and design of civil infrastructure projects including site development, parks, trails, streetscapes, and recreational facilities
  • Gain hands-on experience with stormwater management, drainage analysis, and water-related design under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and construction drawings for permitting and implementation
  • Analyze site conditions such as topography, soils, and drainage patterns to inform design decisions
  • Develop grading plans, stormwater facilities, erosion and sediment control plans, and utility layouts
  • Collaborate with structural engineers, landscape architects, planners, and water resources specialists on integrated project teams
  • Assist with construction cost estimates, specifications, and quantity takeoffs
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and field coordination as projects move into construction
  • Support proposal development and contribute technical input to new project pursuits
  • Review drawings and calculations for accuracy and consistency with engineering standards
  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, technical learning, and firmwide initiatives

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Approximately 2+ years of experience in civil engineering, site design, transportation, or related fields
  • Interest in learning or expanding skills in stormwater, drainage, and water-related design
  • EIT certification preferred; PE licensure (PA or surrounding states) is a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD and civil design software; exposure to StormCAD, HydroCAD, or similar tools is beneficial but not required
  • Familiarity with standard civil engineering practices, permitting processes, and construction documentation
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, learn new technical concepts, and contribute to team success
  • A desire to work on projects that positively impact communities and the environmen

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • PTO, 8 Holidays, Bereavement Leave, Parental Leave
  • Commitment to the hybrid work model
  • Generous contributions to Medical Insurance
  • HSA per paycheck contribution
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Short Term Disability and Long-Term Disability
  • 401K Matching
  • Education Assistance program
  • EAP Program
  • Employee Referral Program
