POSITION: Montessori Paraeducator - 2026-2027 School Year Talent Pool (N225-2627)
REPORTS TO: Principal
LOCATIONS :
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Montessori Paraeducator will provide various forms of instructional assistance and support to the Montessori teachers.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Assist students, under the direction of the teacher, with follow up to Montessori lessons, listening to oral reading, storytelling or reading to class, doing reference research assignments.
  • Supervise large group work to enable teachers to work with smaller or groups or individuals.
  • Assist in field trips and recess supervision of children.
  • Assist in producing, collecting, inventorying, and storing instructional materials.
  • Assist in accounting for money to be collected for field trips, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining school attendance records.
  • Procure, set up, operate and return instructional equipment.
  • Organize and supervise student work areas, preparation of the Montessori environment daily.
  • Assist in preparing bulletin boards and exhibits.
  • Correct objective tests and assignments.
  • Maintain order in the classroom and establish a quiet learning environment; notify the classroom teacher in such cases where behavior and/or other problems arise beyond Paraeducator's control.
  • Assist in toileting of children as needed in accordance with health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Work with children individually and in small groups to reinforce basic skills and to check their use of Montessori materials.
  • Assist in the development and construction of Montessori materials to be used in reinforcement activities.
  • Share in the maintenance of the classroom.
  • Attend all in-service training/staff meetings offered by the department.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE :
  • Associate's degree,
  • or a High School Diploma with a passing score of 457 on the ParaPro assessment ( https://parapro.ets.org/) OR a passing score of 332 (Reading & Writing) and 334 (Mathematics) on the ParaPathways assessment - allowed 12 months from date of hire to pass ParaPathways assessment
  • Previous experience working with groups of children
  • Patience and understanding of children with Special needs.
  • Must maintain confidentially at all times.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • AMI Montessori Assistant Training completion, or AMI Montessori teacher training enrollment.
  • Experience in classroom management from a Montessori perspective and coverage.
  • Multilingual (English/Spanish) skills desirable

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Pay will be commensurate with experience, education level, and in accordance with the Hartford Federation of Paraeducators' (HFP) Collective Bargaining Agreement salary schedule. This is a 10-month position, and the salary range for school year 2026 - 2027 is $25,900 to $48,651 per year.
