Description
The University of Washington Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT), with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2026. Academic title/rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment. If the candidate joins at the Assistant Professor rank, it will be for a 3-year term, renewable.
Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
This position is based at the Seattle VA Hospital and Harborview Medical Center. The individual will function in a multi-disciplinary practice environment which includes fellow, resident, and medical student teaching and clinical or basic science research.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a high volume practice in all aspects of otolaryngology with a particular subspecialty interest in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research that focuses on these areas critical to our specialty. The faculty member will take standard faculty call.
This position includes a 0.75 FTE appointment at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Salary:
Assistant Professor WOT Rank:
The base salary range for this position at the UW | Assistant Professor WOT rank will be: $25,834 - $27,084 per month ($310,008 - $325,008 annually) based on a full-time rate at the UW and is commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This position is eligible for partial salary through the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please refer to the VA Puget Sound Health Care System for information about compensation for their portion of this position. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the VA and UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan] may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include semi-annual additional compensation through the University of Washington Physicians Group. The UW department of Otolaryngology -Head & Neck Surgery targets the AAMC 50th percentile for total salary.

Please refer to the VA Puget Sound Health Care System for information about compensation for their portion of this position. Qualifications
Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • MD (or foreign equivalent), certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and eligible for a Washington State medical license.
  • Fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence and a record or trajectory of scholarly contribution commensurate with rank.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the Seattle Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which requires U.S. citizenship in accordance with federal law
