Job description

Position Summary
The Aluminum Welder position is responsible for performing production welding on aluminum trailer components and assemblies in accordance with company quality, safety, and production standards. This role requires the ability to set up welding equipment, prepare materials, read blueprints and work instructions, and weld aluminum straps, plates, tubes, frames, and related components accurately and efficiently.
The position requires consistent weld quality, attention to detail, dependability, safe work practices, and the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, leads, quality personnel, and co-workers in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions listed below are representative of the duties performed in this role. Other duties may be assigned as business needs require.
  • Read, understand, and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, work instructions, and verbal or written direction to complete aluminum trailer components and assemblies according to established guidelines and quality standards.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment for aluminum welding, including proper machine settings, wire selection, shielding gas use, and material preparation.
  • Perform aluminum welding on straps, plates, tubes, frames, and related trailer components while maintaining consistent weld appearance, penetration, and strength.
  • Inspect completed welds and assemblies for accuracy, fit, alignment, and quality; report defects, concerns, or nonconforming materials to the supervisor.
  • Pass in-house aluminum welding test or certification requirements as applicable.
  • Accurately read a tape measure and use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools as needed.
  • Apply basic math skills, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and converting decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals.
  • Perform required physical work, including standing, twisting, bending, reaching, and lifting while following safe work practices.
  • Maintain regular attendance, dependability, and productivity in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, leads, quality personnel, and co-workers to support production flow and quality expectations.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • One to two years of related welding experience and/or training preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior aluminum welding experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate required welding tools, equipment, and measuring devices.

Language Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, weld symbols, and other production documents.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with supervisors, leads, quality personnel, co-workers, and management.

Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to identify quality concerns, verify measurements, follow welding procedures, and resolve routine production issues using established standards and supervisor guidance.

Other Requirements
  • Must demonstrate accuracy, dependability, attention to detail, quality focus, and safe work habits.
  • Must be willing to learn and follow aluminum welding procedures, production standards, and continuous improvement practices such as 5S and set-up reduction.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, support department and plant safety goals, and assist or train others as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to pass in-house aluminum welding test or certification requirements as applicable.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential job functions.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and perform repetitive production tasks.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
  • Works in a manufacturing and production environment with regular exposure to welding equipment, moving mechanical parts, tools, materials, and production activity.
  • May be exposed to outdoor climates, heat, noise, fumes, sparks, and other conditions common to welding and fabrication areas.
  • Must follow all applicable safety requirements, wear required personal protective equipment, and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
