Bus Driver Substitute

Building: Transportation Department / Mason Public Schools / In-Person

Reports to: Transportation Supervisor

Qualifications Required:

  • Good driving record
  • Must be able to pass physical, drug tests & criminal history check
  • The ability to pass the commercial driving test once trained
  • Enjoy working with children

Job Description:

  • Shall exhibit safe driving habits at all times and operate the bus with safety of the passengers as the primary concern.
  • Shall conduct routine safety inspection of the bus before each run.
  • Shall check fluid and oil levels as required and fuel the bus as necessary.
  • Shall report all mechanical problems to the mechanic.
  • Shall maintain a clean and safe environment within the bus.
  • Shall endeavor to maintain a dependable route schedule.
  • Shall report all accidents to the Transportation Supervisor and cooperate with the investigation of such accidents.
  • Shall be responsible for the discipline of students on the bus, and shall cooperate with building administrators and the Transportation Supervisor in resolving discipline problems.
  • Shall promote positive public relations with students, parents and other school personnel.
  • Shall maintain confidentiality for all school-related information.
  • Shall perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • This position requires long periods of sitting.
  • The position requires occasional lifting.
  • Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with travel to other schools or field trip locations.

Work Year: Beginning with the 2026-2027 School Year

Schedule: Monday through Friday when school is in session on an as-needed basis.
