Job Title: Medical Assistant

Reports to: Office Manager

Job Summary:

Medical Assistants perform administrative and clerical duties while working with providers, to help provide the optimum level of care for our patients. Medical Assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the office and often explain the providers’ instructions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Escorting patients to exam rooms and notifying provider when the patient is ready.
  • Ensure all lab and diagnostic test results are in the chart prior to appointment.
  • Ensure all exam rooms are appropriately stocked and clean.
  • Initial conduct with patient includes reason for visit/symptoms, obtain vital signs, weight, height, blood pressure, temperature, etc.
  • Verify all current medications, contact information, and medical allergies.
  • Preparing patients for examinations.
  • Assisting the provider during examinations.
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens.
  • Instructing patients about medications and special diets.
  • Preparing and administering medications including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections – including vaccinations/immunizations – as directed by the physician or other licensed provider (nurse practitioner, physician assistant).
  • Administer EKG, nebulizer treatments, assisting provider with other procedures/tasks.
  • Transmitting prescription refills as directed.
  • Phlebotomy
  • Inventory and order medical, lab, and/or office supplies.
  • Follow-up on diagnostics, medications, blood results, etc.
  • Wound care.
  • Using computer applications.
  • Updating and filing patient medical records

  • Follow directions given verbally, written, or listed for periodic adherence.
  • Knowledge of HEDIS.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least three years of clinical experience.

Medical Assistant certification or higher (EMT, RN, LPN) CPR/First Aid certification required.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of standing

Frequently required to walk, sit, use hands and finger, stoop, kneel, crouch.

Required to talk and hear clearly.

English is required, secondary language is a plus.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust your focus.
