About the role
This is a full-time position at Christ Covenant and serves as part of our Lead Team. The purpose of this role is to shepherd and provide strategic leadership to the discipleship efforts of Christ Covenant, helping people grow as faithful followers of Jesus who live out the gospel in everyday life. This leader will guide how we cultivate spiritual formation and community across all areas of ministry. This role requires a high-capacity leader who can effectively manage and develop multiple direct reports serving in various ministry contexts. This person would be a problem solver, able to navigate complexity with wisdom, and bring clarity in decision-making, and implement practical, gospel-centered solutions that foster both personal and organizational growth. This position reports to the Executive Pastor. Outlined below are the primary objectives and areas of responsibility that this role will be accountable for in each performance review period.
What you'll do
  • Leadership & Teaching
    • Provide vision, leadership, and oversight to the discipleship ministries of Christ Covenant.
    • Lead, develop, and support the Groups Pastor, Student Pastor, Covenant Kids Pastor, and Women's Ministry Director, providing guidance and alignment in their ministry areas.
    • Develop key areas of discipleship initiatives that support the spiritual formation of our congregation.
    • Teach at various adult discipleship meetings such as onsite groups, Institute classes, men's events, etc.
    • Collaborate with other ministry departments (Young Adults, Students, Kids, etc.) to align and strengthen, problem solve discipleship efforts across the church.
    • Engage in personal discipleship and mentoring relationships with members, as needed.
  • Development
    • Provide strategic direction for all discipleship initiatives at Christ Covenant, ensuring that they align with the church's mission and philosophy of ministry.
    • Continually evaluate and develop systems, resources, and environments that foster spiritual growth and community engagement.
    • Identify, equip, and empower leaders who can multiply discipleship influence throughout the church.
    • Partner with the Executive Pastor and Lead Team to assess and improve overall discipleship health and effectiveness across ministries.
  • Assimilation
    • Oversee Christ Covenant's assimilation pathway-from first-time visitor engagement through membership integration-to ensure a clear, consistent, and pastoral experience for all participants.
    • Supervise and equip the Assimilation Coordinator, ensuring systems, communication, and follow-up processes are well-executed and aligned with church vision and values.
    • Lead and teach in First Sunday membership classes, ensuring new members understand the theology, mission, and values of Christ Covenant.
    • Oversee pastoral engagement with prospective members, including personal meetings, theological conversations, and follow-up care throughout the membership process.
    • Evaluate and refine assimilation structures and strategies regularly to foster stronger connection, discipleship, and belonging within the church body.
    • Collaborate with pastoral staff on the leading of the quarterly New Member Orientation
  • Serve the Church
    • Lead the annual Serve the Church emphasis in partnership with the Care Pastor, providing vision, communication, and oversight of planning and execution.
    • Supervise and equip the Serve the Church Coordinator to mobilize volunteers, promote service opportunities, and celebrate stories of impact.
    • Encourage a culture of joyful service within the congregation as an expression of discipleship and mission.
  • Other
    • Serve as a member of the pastoral staff, participating in baptisms, weddings, funerals, and other pastoral responsibilities as part of a rotation.
    • Assist in the development and management of the annual discipleship budget.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings, prayer gatherings, and other church-wide initiatives.
    • Attend Lead Team Meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Masters of Divinity degree or higher from a theological institution is highly preferred.
  • Personal, one-on-one discipleship experience is highly preferred. Also preferred is experience serving in a local church or ministry setting.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Experience managing multiple staff and ministry areas.
  • Ability to solve problems and lead through organizational complexity.
