Job description

WKRC is looking for a dynamic General Assignment Reporter who is passionate about uncovering stories that matter and holding those in power accountable. We're seeking a motivated, energetic, and creative journalist who thrives on enterprise reporting, isn't afraid to ask tough questions, and is driven to make a difference in the communities we serve.

The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller who can consistently generate original story ideas, develop meaningful sources, and produce compelling content across multiple platforms. We're looking for someone who can dig beyond the headlines, uncover issues that impact audiences, and pursue accountability reporting that creates real change.

Strong writing, exceptional live reporting skills, and the ability to perform confidently under pressure are essential. The successful candidate will bring a relentless work ethic, curiosity, and a "can-do" attitude to every story.

No day will look the same as a Reporter, however, the main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Produce and write meaningful stories for station's newscast that can be used across multiple platforms
  • Provide news on-air as directed from the news management team
  • Engaging with local community members
  • Reviewing material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
  • Work closely with all members of the news team, which would include Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Management, etc. 

Additionally, this person should have a...

  • Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
  • Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills are a must
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Reporter
  • Must be able to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
