Job Description

We are a provider of professional engineering, construction management and public works inspection services to cities, water/sewer/special districts and other public agencies. Our firm specializes in construction, program, and project management services.

Who we’re looking for:

Public Works Inspector will work on Public Works Construction projects including concrete curbs, gutters, curb ramps, sidewalks, storm drains, RCP, water & sewer main replacements, water/sewer laterals, street lights, traffic signals, median landscape work, monument/way-finding signs, utility relocation & adjustments, grind & overlay, slurry/cape/chip seal, roadway re-construction & rehabilitation, ARHM, conventional asphalt, traffic loop replacement, striping and signage. The inspection work will be for Cities and Water Districts in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. These positions suit individuals who want to work part-time or full-time and on a project base.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Reviews Plans, Specs. & Estimates (PS&E) thoroughly, highlights/tabs them; has a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Oversees the day to day project construction activities and be the eyes and ears of the client and the firm.
  • Monitors and records all work conducted by the contractor.
  • Prepares a comprehensive Daily Report, including measurements, quantities, activities, etc.
  • Identifies and records any construction obstacles impacting the scope, plans, specifications, and/or estimate.
  • Communicates with the Construction Manager, City, Contractor, and other parties involved in the project.
  • Documents the contractor's daily compliance/violations ensuring quality control of project construction activities.
  • Understands general construction, methods, materials, safety practices, quality control, and contract administration.
  • Conducts on-site inspections, enforcing compliance of plans, specifications, standards, safety practices, and materials.
  • Reviews traffic control plans and procedures to ensure compliance with construction zones.
  • Performs constructability reviews of plans and specifications.
  • Assists in review of contractors claims, change orders, etc.
  • Attends pre-construction, kick-off, progress, and field meetings.
  • Checks dimensions, measures quantities, materials' use and
  • Prepares daily reports and recommendations on project construction activities.

Qualifications:

Ten (10) years of Construction Inspection experience working for Cities or Counties Public Works Departments or Water Districts or providing similar services for Cities, Counties and Water Districts as a consultant. Applicants without the appropriate background, City, County, Water/Sewer/Special District Inspection Experience will not be considered.

· Abilities:

· Good oral and written communication skills.

· Knowledge with computer related tasks.

· Ability to prepare reports and correspondences.

· Ability to identify project issues, establish solutions, and review outcomes.

· Familiarity with local, state, federal regulatory requirements, standard plans and specifications for public work construction (Greenbook) including standards for water and sewer main replacement projects.
