Byrne & Jones Construction is seeking an experienced Asphalt Estimator / Project Manager to lead projects from pre-construction through final completion. This role combines estimating, project management, and client relationship responsibilities to ensure projects are accurately bid, successfully executed, and completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has experience in asphalt paving operations, strong estimating and project management skills, and the ability to collaborate with clients, field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout every phase of a project.

Responsibilities:


Estimating & Pre-Construction:

  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for asphalt, aggregates, labor, equipment, and related materials.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates using current labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Utilize estimating software such as Bluebeam, HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar platforms.
  • Prepare complete bid packages and submit proposals in accordance with bid requirements.
  • Maintain organized estimating files, bid documentation, and cost history databases.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to construction.

Project Management:

  • Manage asphalt and paving projects from award through closeout.
  • Develop project budgets, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal operations teams to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Monitor project progress, production, costs, and profitability while proactively addressing issues.
  • Track project expenses, approve invoices, manage change orders, and maintain accurate cost reporting.
  • Conduct site visits to verify project progress, quality, and compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure projects meet company quality standards and all applicable safety regulations.
  • Prepare regular project status reports for management and clients.
  • Manage project documentation including contracts, RFIs, submittals, schedules, and closeout documents.

Communication & Leadership:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with estimating, operations, field supervision, accounting, and executive leadership.
  • Lead project meetings and facilitate communication between all stakeholders.
  • Foster positive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in asphalt paving estimating, project management, or a combination of both.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving methods, materials, and construction practices.
  • Experience preparing detailed cost estimates and managing multiple construction projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (Bluebeam, HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
