Description
The Aqua Fitness Instructor will teach aquatic exercise classes to participants at The Rookery Activity Center. Under direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, this position will promote health and wellness by providing fun and engaging exercise routines that are adaptable for all abilities. Aqua Fitness Instructors will receive a free membership to the Rookery Activity Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Conduct aquatic exercise classes as scheduled.
  2. Create routines for assigned classes and update regularly to incorporate current health and wellness, seasonal topic or themes being promoted by the Rookery.
  3. Provide ideas and suggestions for class offerings.
  4. Monitor class participants and encourage safety and fun for the best experience.
  5. Maintain and provide activity records.
  6. Maintain the necessary certifications to conduct aquatic exercise classes.
  7. Promote and communicate information for activities and events.
  8. Encourage participation in other activities and events.
  9. Communicate progress, problems, and program needs to supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience instructing various aquatic and/or land exercise classes to adults of various ages and abilities.
  2. Must be able to work various hours to include evenings and weekends.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Valid Aquatic Exercise Association/Arthritis Foundation Program Leader certification for aquatic and land exercise.
  2. Valid nationally-recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification to instruct classes as Aqua Zumba, Zumba Gold, yoga, water aerobics, deep-water aerobics, Tai-Chi, and/or Jazzercise.

REQUIREMENTS
  1. 18 years and older.
  2. Ability to respond quickly, effectively, and calmly in emergency situations.
  3. Maintain a professional image to the public at all times.
  4. Communicate effectively and demonstrate a professional demeanor to City staff and the public at all times.
  5. Good organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
  2. Ability to stand, sit, bend, and kneel for extended periods of time.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTMust comply with organizational and departmental policies.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThis is a part-time position. Weekday morning hours.
