Job description

Position: Art Production (CTE) Teacher / Sandy High School / Full-time (1.0 FTE)
 

Primary Purpose:

The Art Production Teacher will provide instruction in the Art Production CTE Program. Components of the Art Production Program include: graphic design, ceramics, screen printing, stained glass and jewelry making. The Teacher will provide a positive learning environment and effective instruction, document student progress, activities and outcomes while providing feedback to students, guardians and Administration. Candidates should be collaborative and experienced in building positive relationships with students and colleagues, and will follow District policy and standard practices. This position will operate under the direct supervision of the Principal and/or Assistant Principal. Teacher will also perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:      

  • willingness to obtain a valid Oregon teaching license with CTE Endorsement in Art; or valid Oregon teaching license with the willingness to complete a professional development plan in collaboration with District, regional personnel and industry partners to obtain a career technical endorsement in Art Production.
    • Two years industry experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated subject matter proficiency within area of assignment.
  • Understanding of skills/strategies necessary to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Ability to utilize effective practices to build a community of learners.
  • Readily implement technology to aid instruction and meet building/district requirements.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff.


Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of art production curriculum and instruction
  • Teaching design principles and process
  • Ability to instruct students how to safely operate and maintain kilns, soldering and screen printing instruments and other industry-related tools and equipment
  • Familiarity or experience with art production
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Use of technology for learning management system and instruction 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Teach art production concepts and skills that are industry-related such as, but not limited to: graphic design, visual art, screen printing, stained glass and using tools specific to industry
  • Create an atmosphere that is conducive to hands-on learning in a modern environment that encourages collaboration
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for helping individual students to achieve educational growth
  • Develop, plan, organize and maintain effective classroom management strategies in alignment with District and school site policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Develop and maintain an organized, orderly and clean classroom and lab environment
  • Utilize a variety of instructional approaches, visual aids and models to demonstrate concepts
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  • Work cooperatively with ELD and special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Prepare student progress reports; consistently communicate student progress to students, parents, school counselors and site administration
  • Make acceptable lesson plans, leave directions for substitutes and perform all other duties as required by the administration

Salary: Annual Salary Range $57,162 - $110,780
             Initial placement based on education and experience.
