Job description

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support the design, testing, deployment, and optimization of broadband network infrastructure in a large-scale DOCSIS environment. This individual will work with CMTS platforms, cable modem technologies, IP provisioning systems, and next-generation broadband architectures to ensure reliable, high-performance service delivery across the network.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of DOCSIS technologies, cable access networks, routing and switching, and network testing methodologies. This role requires hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting broadband network equipment while collaborating with engineering, operations, and vendor teams to support network enhancements and technology deployments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support broadband network infrastructure supporting DOCSIS-based services.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CMTS platforms including Arris E6000, Casa C100G, Cisco cBR-8, or similar technologies.
  • Support DOCSIS 3.0, 3.1, and DOCSIS 4.0 initiatives, including testing, validation, deployment, and performance optimization.
  • Perform network capacity assessments and recommend enhancements to improve utilization, scalability, and reliability.
  • Conduct lab and field testing of network devices, cable modems, and broadband technologies.
  • Evaluate upstream and downstream performance, latency, jitter, throughput, and service quality metrics.
  • Support IP provisioning systems and related technologies including DHCP, DNS, TFTP, and packet-based service delivery.
  • Participate in node segmentation, channel expansions, modulation profile changes, and network optimization initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking issues involving routing, switching, multicast, VLANs, and IP services.
  • Support implementation and testing of Remote PHY (R-PHY) and distributed access architecture (DAA) technologies.
  • Configure and support routers, switches, and security devices including firewalls and access controls.
  • Develop network documentation, test plans, implementation procedures, and operational standards.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and operations groups to validate network changes and resolve complex issues.
  • Analyze packet captures and network performance data utilizing tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, SNMP, and network monitoring solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of network engineering experience.
  • 3+ years supporting cable broadband networks and DOCSIS technologies.
  • Strong understanding of DOCSIS architecture and cable access networks.
  • Hands-on experience with CMTS platforms such as Arris E6000, Casa C100G, Cisco cBR-8, or similar.
  • Experience with IP provisioning technologies including DHCP, DNS, TFTP, and cable modem registration processes.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, routing, switching, and network protocols.
  • Experience with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network performance and connectivity issues.
  • Ability to analyze packet captures and diagnose protocol-level problems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in collaborative engineering environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DOCSIS 4.0 deployments, testing, or certification efforts.
  • Knowledge of Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX), Extended Spectrum DOCSIS (ESD), and OFDM technologies.
  • Experience with Remote PHY (R-PHY), Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), and HFC networks.
  • Experience in network test engineering, QA validation, or lab environments.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python.
  • Experience with Ixia traffic generators and performance testing tools.
  • CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, or comparable network certifications.
