Job Description
General Scope of Duties
Connecticut College seeks qualified candidates to serve as the Dayton Arena & Athletic Facility Manager to deliver high quality, well-maintained athletic facilities with a focus on Dayton Arena.
In the off-season, this position will assist the Associate Athletic Director for Facility & Operations with athletic facilities and field operations, rentals and maintenance.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The arena manager will coordinate all operations for Dayton Arena, including but not limited to the overall planning, scheduling, budgeting and implementation of programming, the supervision of arena staff, and maintenance for all arena systems.
• Hire, supervise, and train Dayton Arena employees - Ice Rink Assistant and on-call Zamboni drivers.
• Work with Athletic Directors and athletics department personnel to plan programming in the • interest of the College.
• Create an arena schedule and coordinate staffing and support for all events.
• Maintain Dayton Arena on a daily basis with respect to cleaning, equipment maintenance and repair, and operation of ice-making equipment and infrastructure.
• Develop and oversee the execution of the Dayton Arena budget, purchasing supplies, equipment and services as necessary
• Oversee maintenance projects and ensure the schedule meets College needs
• Develop standard operating procedures for Dayton Arena and maintain records, files and work schedules; ensure work activities comply with standards and regulations
• Ensures all programs and procedures are in place to maintain security, safety and enjoyment of clients, guests and employees on a daily basis. Ensure all work processes comply with OSHA
requirements/regulations and college policies and procedures
• Perform work , as assigned, to properly maintain athletic facilities and equipment including field
grooming, playing surface maintenance, lining of fields and athletic department machinery
• Provide support to projects which enhance the athletic facilities and fields up to an including the new athletic facility master plan
• Direct maintenance and repair arena & athletic equipment as needed and all staff is adequately trained in their operation
• Recommend changes in techniques and equipment to improve service and/or reduce expenditures
• Self-starter with ability to analyze situations and develop solutions to problems with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively
• Ability to develop "out of the box" ideas for increasing facility usage, rental income while controlling costs
• Provide weekly updates to the Athletic Directors regarding the Operations of the Rink
• Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice
Education and Skills
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years' experience in ice arena operations and working knowledge of ice installations and maintenance required; degree in facility management, sports management, athletic administration or related area strongly preferred. General knowledge of plumbing, electrical and computer energy management systems; knowledge of safety practices, including first aid and all applicable safety standards for public facilities. Proven leadership skills with proven track record of mentoring and developing professional and student staff. Must have ability to effectively interact with all aspects of the college community, vendors, students, coaches and visitors. Well-organized, detailed -oriented, ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment, and have strong written, verbal, and analytical skills; ability to work a demanding schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, double shifts. Valid driver's license required.
