What is an archive intern?

Archive Interns are individuals, often students or recent graduates, who work temporarily within archival institutions such as libraries, museums, or corporate archives. Their main responsibilities may include organizing, cataloging, and preserving historical documents, photographs, and other records. What does an archive intern do?

As an Archive Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks such as cataloguing, digitizing historical documents, assisting with preservation efforts, and supporting research requests. Interns often help maintain organizational systems and may contribute to creating finding aids or metadata for collections. The role typically involves collaborating with archivists and sometimes other departments, offering valuable exposure to both independent and team-based archival work. This hands-on experience is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills and gain insight into the daily operations of an archive.
