Job Description

Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Radiographer and in a training situation, schedules and prepares patients for diagnostic radiographic examinations, loads film holders and cassettes, and performs radiographic examinations. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the administrative and technical supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Supervisor or designee and the medical supervision of the Medical Director of Radiology.

Responsibilities
  1. Under supervision of a radiographer, schedules and prepares patients for diagnostic radiographic examinations; loads film holders and cassettes. Performs radiographic examinations.
  2. Transports patients to department; returns patients to rooms after completion of radiographic examination or treatment.
  3. Receives, stores, and maintains supplies for examination room.
  4. Under direct supervision of physician, administers intravenous media and inserts urethral catheters; monitors patient reactions to procedures performed.
  5. Properly handles electronic and paper patient records. Accurately records and archives radiographic images.
  6. Under supervision of a radiographer, operates computerized equipment and assists in making simple repairs to equipment.
  7. Assists in cleaning diagnostic rooms and equipment.
  8. May assist Special Procedures and Computed Tomography Technologists in performing special examinations.
  9. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
  10. Performs other related work as assigned. Utilizes new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.
Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a recognized two (2) year program in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Familiarity with the methods and techniques of radiographic imaging, including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment, and processing radiographic films.
  • Familiarity with methods and techniques in administering diagnostic x-rays, of the hazards involved in this work for equipment operator and patients, and of effective precautionary measures.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy as related to diagnostic radiologic work.
  • Ability to maintain records and files of radiographic work.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with patients, patient families, physicians, supervisors, public, and other Medical Center staff.

NOTE: This position will expire 90 days after graduation from the Radiology Program.
