Illustrator - Creative Development 

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc. is seeking an Illustrator with an intermediate level (3-6 years) of experience to be located in Orlando, FL or Los Angeles, CA. 


This position is anticipated to co-locate on-site within our client’s office and client’s staff in either Orlando or Los Angeles and/or work in-office at Huitt-Zollars Orlando or Los Angeles locations.


This role is responsible for developing visual representations, concept artwork, and illustrative content that communicate narrative, environment, and experiential intent across themed entertainment, experiential environments, hospitality, and destination-based mixed-use projects. This position focuses on translating ideas into compelling visual imagery that supports concept development, design communication, and stakeholder alignment. 


This full-time role includes concept illustration, visual development, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Duties include but are not limited to, creation of concept art, environmental illustrations, mood imagery, and presentation materials that support storytelling and design development. This role works in alignment with the Vice President of Creative Development and other Creative team members to translate creative ideas into clear and engaging visual representations throughout all phases of project delivery.

Location: On-site/in-office and co-located with client and client staff in either Orlando, FL or Los Angeles, CA and/or Huitt-Zollars Orlando, FL or Los Angeles, CA offices (no relocation or fully remote arrangements offered)

Illustrator Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform at a competent level and skill in visual storytelling, illustration, concept development, communication, collaboration, adaptability, attention to detail and time management.
  • Develop and produces concept artwork, environmental illustrations, and visual storytelling imagery across projects, and supports visual development under direction.
  • Translate narrative, spatial ideas, and creative direction into clear and compelling visual representations.
  • Create mood imagery, atmosphere studies, and visual development pieces to support concept and design phases.
  • Support development of vision decks, presentations, and client-facing materials.
  • Collaborate with Creative Directors, Art Directors, and designers to align illustrations with project intent.
  • Produce sketches, digital paintings, and detailed renderings that communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Support iterative design processes by rapidly visualizing concepts and design options.
  • Participate in design reviews, internal critiques, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Maintain consistency with established visual style and artistic direction.
  • Ensure illustrations support storytelling, guest experience, and overall project goals.
  • Communicate ideas clearly through visual and verbal presentation.
  • Efficient use and working knowledge of Rhino, Revit, Lumion, Adobe suite, Microsoft Office to produce quality work. 
  • Contributes to the development of visual storytelling and concept communication across projects.
  • Ensures illustrations effectively support narrative, design intent, and stakeholder understanding.
  • Supports alignment between creative direction and visual representation.
  • Contributes to successful project delivery measured by clarity, quality, and effectiveness of visual communication.
  • Assists in maintaining visual consistency across project materials.
  • Adheres to Huitt-Zollars’ business processes and quality management systems.
  • Participates in design reviews and quality control processes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, tools, and best practices in illustration and visual development.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration, Fine Arts, Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience level aligned with position tier (3–6+ years in illustration, entertainment design, or related industries).
  • Strong portfolio showcasing concept art, environmental illustration, and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to translate conceptual ideas into clear and compelling imagery.
  • Experience working within creative teams and collaborative environments.
  • Proficiency in digital illustration tools and software.
  • Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Highly creative, detail-oriented, and adaptable in approach.
  • Proficiency in Rhino, Revit, Lumion, Adobe suite, Microsoft Office. Enscape, 3DS Max, and/or Maya Zbrush a plus.
