Job description

SUMMARY

As Senior Job Captain at HPI, you are a key member of the technical team involved in the Design Development and Construction Documents phases of projects.

Responsibilities include support of the Project Architect through the production of Design Development and Construction Documents submissions that are well-drawn both technically and graphically as well as clear, well-coordinated, and complete. By applying your technical, problem-solving, software and graphics skills you will assist in the completion of high-quality, technical design solutions, drawings, specifications, and Revit models that meet the standards and expectations of the firm and our clients.

This role requires that you take on a direct role in providing technical solutions for major components of the project, working directly with the Project Architect. You will also assist the Project Architect in leadership of the Job Captain(s) as well as consultants on the project.

Communication is a major component of this role, requiring that you co-lead project communication efforts with the Project Architect and Project Manager both within the internal team, and with the consultant team.

As Senior Job Captain, you will also take on a more active role and have ownership of the project BIM with support from the BIM Manager and / or BIM Specialist.

We may also ask you to assist the Project Manager in tasks related to marketing efforts or to assist the Design Team or Construction Administration Team with tasks during the Schematic Design or Construction phases of projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

BIM

  • Support Project Architect in 3D modeling and documentation in Revit
  • Modeling of large, highly complex projects with oversight from Project Architect and BIM Manager
  • Assist with the initial project set up within Revit and BIM 360, with oversight from the BIM Manager and Project Architect
  • Co-lead efforts in use of Navisworks and BIM 360 for clash detection and coordination with consultant team with guidance from Project Architect and BIM Manager
  • Lead project BIM efforts and manage models with guidance from Project Architect and BIM Manager, oversee Job Captains in BIM

QUALITY CONTROL

  • Monitor and maintain continued high level of model and drawing quality and model health across team including consultants
  • Maintain quality control of documents for graphics, standards, and coordination

COORDINATION AND COMMUNICATION

  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and their BIM teams with oversight from Project Architect
  • Coordinate with specification writer to ensure consistency across drawings and specifications with oversight from Project Manager
  • Coordinate with project designers to maintain design intent while developing model / drawings / specifications, monitor that design intent is being met along with Project Architect
  • Coordinate with vendors to maintain design intent and obtain DSA / jurisdictional approval of materials and systems with guidance from Project Architect
  • Maintain communication within internal project team and consultant team, keep Project Architect and Project Manager informed

TECHNICAL DESIGN

  • Conduct code analysis and research, with oversight from the Project Architect and Project Manager
  • Responsible for specific technical design aspects of the project in coordination with the Project Architect, work somewhat independently with guidance from the Project Architect
  • Coordinate significant building components and evaluate and recommend appropriate technical design solutions to Project Architect and Project Manager
  • Address constructability comments, plan check corrections, and senior staff review comments
  • Work with DSA and other jurisdictional agencies to obtain approvals with oversight from Project Architect

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Assist Project Architect and Project Manager with producing materials for use in RFP’s for new project pursuits

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

  • Assist Project Architect in providing technical guidance and mentorship to Job Captains and Emerging Professionals
  • Pursue completion of licensure and other certifications such as LEED with guidance from mentor
  • Participate in training provided by BIM Manager and Technical Team
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities with guidance from mentor


PREREQUISITES

  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • 6 to 8 years related experience in an architectural firm
  • Significant experience of at least 3 years using Autodesk Revit in a professional setting
