Location: Danvers, MA area
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am to 4 pm

Target Rate: $25 Hourly

Job Summary

The Transportation Dispatcher plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of Northeast Arc's Transportation Department within Community Employment Services (CES). This position coordinates transportation schedules, driver and monitor assignments, route management, compliance tracking, and operational support to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for individuals served.

The Dispatcher provides administrative and operational oversight of daily transportation activities, ensuring compliance with Northeast Arc policies, DDS requirements, HST/MART regulations, and Massachusetts RMV standards. This role supports service continuity through effective scheduling, attendance monitoring, billing support, driver training coordination, and communication with staff, families, and individuals served. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage changing operational priorities while maintaining a high standard of service and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Transportation Director with training TD Drivers/Monitors and CES staff.
  • Ensures Drivers/Monitors maintain valid licenses and required DDS certifications, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintains and adjusts daily Driver/Monitor schedules, route assignments, and attendance records to support service continuity.
  • Reports Driver/Monitor concerns, consumer incidents, vehicle accidents, and workers compensation events to the Transportation Manager with required documentation.
  • Maintains effective communication with Drivers/Monitors, individuals served, families, and support staff.
  • Ensures compliance with Northeast Arc policies and applicable transportation laws and safety requirements, including vehicle safety, seatbelt use, speed limits, consumer interactions, and safe driving practices
  • Provides Driver/Monitor coverage as needed, including during staffing shortages or vacancies.
  • This position has access to confidential information regarding individuals served, including attendance, billing, and health-related information. The Dispatcher must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with Northeast Arc policy, DDS requirements, and applicable state and federal privacy laws
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license, with a driving record that meets Northeast Arc's requirements
  • Successful completion of a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) background check and any additional background screening required by DDS or Northeast Arc policy, prior to and periodically during employment
  • Completion of a Massachusetts driving record (RMV) check prior to and periodically during employment.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Van driving and vehicle mechanical knowledge or experience strongly preferred
  • High school diploma or GED

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of smart-phones, PC's, and Microsoft Office programs. Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in scheduling conflicts, driver shortages, or transportation-related emergencies.
  • High-level attention to detail and accuracy, strong verbal and written communication skills, with eagerness to provide service and support excellence
  • Knowledge of MA State and Federal Laws regarding safe driving
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated and require limited supervision

Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to stand/walk up to one hour uninterrupted. May require long periods of sitting/driving time. May include shoveling and clearing snow/ice off and around vehicles.

Work Environment:

Assigned office space working at desk and on a computer in the dispatch office. Any community or program location where transportation services are provided. May work in various weather conditions. Will be in and around active parking lots and program locations. In and around vehicles, including driving and assisting persons served.
