Work Location: LaSalle Plaza – Downtown Minneapolis, on-site

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am – 5pm (occasional early mornings, evenings, or special events as needed)

About the Role
Hempel Real Estate is seeking a highly detail-oriented AP & AR Specialist who is responsible for assisting with the company’s incoming and outgoing financial transactions. The role ensures accurate processing of invoices, timely collections, and maintenance of financial records while supporting overall cash flow and financial integrity.


The ideal candidate is detailed, process and team-oriented, and proactive. This AP & AR Specialist position provides an excellent opportunity to expand existing experience and grow within the real estate industry. This role will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team and contribute to the financial success of Hempel Real Estate. This position reports directly to the AP/AR Accounting Manager.

Key Responsibilities (are inclusive of but not limited to)
Accounts Payable (AP):

  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices accurately and timely
  • Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documents
  • Assist with the weekly check runs, ACH, and wire payments
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls

Accounts Receivable (AR):

  • Monitor accounts for incoming payments and apply payments accurately
  • Assist with the reconciliation of customer accounts and resolve billing discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate aging reports and communicate status to management

General Accounting Support:

  • Assist with month-end close activities (e.g., reconciliations, accruals, reporting)
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Support audits by providing requested documentation
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., property management, operations, HR, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and best practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software (RealPage experience preferred)
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills

Desired Qualifications & Characteristics

  • 2+ years of AP/AR or general accounting experience preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in RealPage or similar accounting software
  • Experience with commercial real estate accounting
  • Highly dependable and resourceful
  • Team-oriented

  • Exceptionally self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
