Apprentice Teacher
Salary - $50K
Position Summary
The Apprentice Teacher position provides an opportunity for talented educational professionals with limited teaching experience an opportunity to gain hands-on practice and training to become a successful full-time classroom teacher.
Apprentice Teachers will observe, support, co-teach and provide coverage for teachers to ensure our scholars receive a high quality education. Apprentice Teachers will support the classroom by providing formal instruction, tutoring, lesson planning, grading and individual and small group instruction to facilitate Guided Reading and Guided Math programs.
Apprentice Teachers are expected to teach their own class of students, allowing for direct teaching experience. Apprentice teachers will also assist with a variety of work inside and outside the classroom including organizing student events.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and a New Jersey Substitute Teaching License.

Experience:
  • Minimum three (3) years of actual work experience working directly with students.
  • Experience using computer applications/information technology and data to assist and/or facilitate instruction with students.

Position Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Vice-Principal, the Apprentice Teacher will:
Essential Functions
  • Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
  • When needed, teach a class or small groups of students.
  • Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year.
  • Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
  • Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support.
  • Observe classroom teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
  • Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback on lessons and instruction.
  • Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.

As appropriate, perform all duties expected of classroom teachers:
  • Implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards;
  • Designing and implementing assessments that measure progress towards academic standards;
  • Using assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices;
  • Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips;
  • Providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior;
  • Serving as an advisor to a small group of students;
  • Supervising students during transitions, breakfast, lunch and afterschool;
  • Being accountable for students' mastery of academic standards.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Designee
