Join our team of Life Changers!

UPMC is hiring a Full-time, General Maintenance 2 (Evening Shift) to support the hospital in Hanover.

You will need to provide your own hand tools, UPMC will provide power tools and specialty tools.

Our ideal candidate would have previous experience in either HVAC, electrical or plumbing along with knowledge of computer systems as all work orders are done electronically.

In this role, you'll handle a variety of tasks each day. Instead of working in just one trade, you'll support multiple trades based on the department's needs. If you have completed trade school or have experience in one trade and you're eager to learn and grow your skills in others, this position could be a great fit for you!

Schedule is Wednesday-Saturday 2pm-12am (Evening Shift)

Training will be completed on dayshift which is anywhere between 6 weeks to 4 months depending on individual.

Final candidate will be hired within the career ladder based on their education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance work and tasks as directed with minimal supervision.
  • Perform specific preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment
  • Exhibit a basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry/hardware, mechanical equipment and facilities systems.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas.
    Maintain all written logs pertaining to shift responsibilities, i.e., med gas, equipment room rounds, etc.
  • Maintain water chemistry and testing procedures on equipment and building systems.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of building's direct digital control (DDC) systems.
  • Order materials as needed.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures.
  • Perform minor carpentry and painting work.
  • Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Minor repairs and maintaining of plumbing fixtures, piping systems, plumbing leaks (soldering), defective pipes and clogged drains.
  • Performs general cleaning duties on equipment and in mechanical support areas.
  • Performs required maintenance, repair and inspection of beds.
  • Ability to perform snow removal activities and work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

General Maintenance 2- Multi-Craft

  • Completion of a high school diploma/GED is required.
  • A total of 2 years of general maintenance-related work experience is required.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Completion of a High School Vocational program or Trade School is preferred.
  • Military experience considered.

Journeyman 1-Multi-Craft

  • Completion of an Associates Degree, a Two-year Mechanical or related Trade School program or an Apprenticeship in a Trade.
  • Also 4 years of general maintenance work experience working in a healthcare or commercial environment is required.
  • Military experience considered.

OR

  • Completion of a high school diploma/GED and a Total of 8 years of general maintenance work experience working in a healthcare or commercial environment is required.
  • Military experience considered.

Journeyman 2-Multi-Craft

  • Completion of an Associates Degree, a Two-year Mechanical or related Trade School program or an Apprenticeship in a Trade is Required.
  • Also 7 years of general maintenance work experience working in a healthcare or commercial environment is required.
  • Military experience considered.

Preference: Individuals with prior HVAC, electrical or plumbing experience and comfortable with computers as all work orders are electronic.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Driver's License
  • Act 34
