Job description

Job Title: Shop Tech Apprentice (Construction Equipment)
Signing Bonus: $2,000
We're looking to hire a Shop Service Tech apprentice who is eager to learn and develop their technical skillset. In this role, you'll work under the supervision of one of our techs. They'll instruct you and give you tasks to complete each day that center around the repair and maintenance of our customers' machines.
You will learn how to perform inspections, make basic repairs, order parts, and maintain inventory. You will also get experience with performing various maintenance and repair tasks. For example, you'll help with the replacement of faulty parts, engine repairs, and resolving problems in the machine's electrical systems.
To do well in this position, you will need to be dedicated to improving your skill set and capable of learning on the job. It would be beneficial if you were good with your hands and already had some familiarity with basic repair and maintenance tasks.

Shop Tech Apprentice Responsibilities:
  • Follow the instructions given to you by your supervisor
  • Perform basic repairs under the guidance of a tech
  • Conduct routine light maintenance tasks, including cleanliness and pre-inspection of equipment
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Assist with shipping and receiving by unloading trucks and checking in merchandise
  • Measure, identify, and assess parts for reusability or replacement; order new parts as needed.
  • Utilize test and diagnostic equipment to make necessary adjustments to machines and systems.
  • Perform minor welding, fabrication, and plumbing alignment tasks.
  • Adapt to varying workloads by assisting in other shop areas as required

Shop Tech Apprentice Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A desire to develop the skills that a tech needs to possess
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to use basic hand tools
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes
  • General mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills
  • Physically able to lift heavy objects

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Frequently walk and move about on foot, including navigating uneven terrain.
  • Lift and carry over 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Operate hand and power tools, and manage equipment parts and tools.
  • Climb in and out of equipment, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Read work tickets, and service manuals, and operate heavy machinery.
  • Communicate via radio, phone, and in person, and hear mechanical issues for safety.
  • Perform tasks in various positions, including prone under vehicles and equipment.
