Job description

Position Summary

Acuren is currently recruiting an Apprentice Machinist to join our team and support the sour gas corrosion testing lab in Calgary, AB. The finished products produced by our machine shop are primarily NACE corrosion test specimens machined from oil and gas tubular products.

Under the direction of the Machinist Foreman, the Apprentice Machinist provides assistance and support by setting up and operating precision metal cutting and grinding machines such as lathes, milling machines, saws, drills and grinders, and preparing test coupons, samples or components made from metals, plastics, rubber textiles and fibreglass, while following Acuren's standard operating procedures and process maps.

Position Summary

  • Location: Calgary, AB

  • Position Type: Full-time, permanent

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday (may vary based on operational requirements)

  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on qualifications and experience

Responsibilities
  • Operate band saws, cut off saws, surface grinders
  • Operate CNC lathes and mills
  • Hand polishing/grinding test samples
  • Use precision measuring equipment for quality control
  • Perform regular shop cleaning, inspections and basic maintenance
Requirements
  • Indentured Machinist Apprentice
  • Completion of a CNC machining course
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Familiar with CNC and manual machines
  • Experience with AutoCAD would be considered an asset
  • Good communication skills with a willingness to learn under the current machinist lead
  • Ability to execute verbal and written work directions

  • Frequent periods of standing and periods of concentration.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying materials, tools, and equipment of up to 50 lbs
