Job description

Position Title
Student Nurse ApprenticeBell Hospital, Olathe HospitalPosition Summary / Career Interest:As a current professional nursing student, this role provides clinical support to patients with the oversight of leadership and the students' affiliated school. This position provides direct and indirect care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of an RN and in alignment with organizational and departmental policies and procedures. The Student Nurse Apprentice will work in this role for 200 hours during the semester for their clinical capstone. Upon completion of the 200 hours, they will transition into the associated campus role: Nurse Associate at the KC campus and Student Nurse Intern at the Olathe campus.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care to an assigned group of patients, under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Utilize the nursing process to work in collaboration within the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized plans of care, incorporating age-specific considerations, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching.
  • Assist with tests and procedures.
  • Performs patient rounds and answer call lights immediately, using excellent customer service techniques. Promptly reports any unusual incidents and/or any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to the RN preceptor.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Uses technology appropriately, whether entering or securing data in the electronic medical record.
  • Practice time management, prioritization, and self-motivation to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending inservices and meetings.
  • Identify and report potential or actual concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses that could impact patient, visitor, or associate safety.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate
  • Enrollment in an accredited nursing program and completion of a "Fundamentals of Nursing" or "Med/Surg" course
