Summary/Objective
The Tool and Die Technician is responsible for building, designing, blueprinting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing tool and die components used in manufacturing operations. This role ensures tooling and fixture reliability, dimensional accuracy, and continuous operation through preventive maintenance, precision machining, and technical problem-solving. The technician supports production, engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives by fabricating new tools, fixturing, modifying existing components, and ensuring tooling meets safety, quality, and performance standards.
Essential Functions
  • Design, blueprint, layout fixturing in CAD software
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on tooling improvements, new tool development, and R&D projects.
  • Collaborate and support Engineering on NPD initiatives.
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and models to determine required materials, machining steps, and tooling solutions.
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders
  • Machine, fit, and assemble components to tight tolerances, verifying accuracy using precision measurement tools.
  • Diagnose tooling failures and perform corrective and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment availability.
  • Disassemble, repair, rework, and reassemble fixtures, jigs, gauges, and cutting tools.
  • Inspect tooling for wear, alignment, and structural integrity; recommend design or material modifications as needed.
  • Make technical recommendations to improve tool life, manufacturability, safety, and performance.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis for tooling and or fixturing-related quality issues and contribute to fact based solutions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, tool history logs, and documentation of tooling modifications.
  • Follow established safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company quality practices.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with 5S and safety standards.
  • Manage daily tasks to maximize productivity while meeting deadlines and project priorities.
  • Support training and skill development opportunities provided by the company.
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 plus years' experience in Tool Room
  • Experience with CNC and Manual Machines
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and a solid understanding of clamping principles used in tooling and die applications.
  • Ability to analyze and work from blueprints and customer drawings
  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Ability to use and read quality gauges
  • Advanced knowledge of machining practices (Speeds, Feeds, Tooling etc.)

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Tool and Die Apprenticeship Certification
  • CNC Machining Certification
