Job description

Our Transmission group is currently looking to add a Field Heavy Equipment Technician (Mechanic) to the team supporting the Waasigan Transmission Line project, based outside of Thunder Bay, ON.

Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, we are seeking an experienced and mechanically versatile Heavy Equipment Technician with hands-on experience maintaining and repairing construction equipment. This position provides critical mechanical support to field crews on one of Canada's largest active transmission line projects, ensuring all equipment remains operational and field crews stay productive.

Please Note: this is a field-based position working a schedule of 20 days on / 8 days off; 11 hour days. Camp accommodations are provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain Heavy Duty Equipment (Diggers, Cranes, Stringing Equipment, TimberLand, Hoggs / Davis, Moprac) used in transmission line construction operations
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues both in the field and in the shop
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment to minimize downtime and ensure reliability
  • Use JalTest diagnostic software to identify and resolve equipment issues accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all repairs, inspections, and parts used
  • Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies required for repairs
  • Collaborate with field supervisors and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize operational disruption
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and ensure all work complies with safety policies and industry regulations

Requirements

  • Journeyperson / Journeyman or 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician (HD Mechanic) certification
  • Experience working on wire stringing equipment (including TimberLand, Hogg/Davis, and Moprac)
  • Proficiency with JalTest diagnostic software
  • Valid Class G driver's licence with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying outdoor conditions

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • 1,500+ hours of hands-on experience working on wire stringing equipment
  • CVIP inspection certification
  • Previous experience on transmission line or major infrastructure construction projects
