Job description

Student Apprentice - The Apprentice Program
The Apprentice Program (TAP) is a free program for creative high school students in the DMV who have a passion for visual arts. With a public art portfolio that dates as far back as 2003, Apprentices are either paid an educational stipend or can earn Student Service Learning hours (SSL). As an apprentice, you will train in art, job, and life skills while meeting and collaborating with creative peers. Many apprentices return each year to participate in the summer and/or school year programs to advance in their training. After graduating high school, apprentices are eligible in the fall to apply for our Studio Crew team, where they can further their career development while completing AOB public art commissions for high-profile clients.
Summer TAP Dates & Schedule Break Down
Start Date for Summer TAP: June 24th
End Date for Summer TAP: August 2nd

  • In Studio Days: Monday - Friday from 1-5PM (4 hours 5days a week)
  • NO TAP Days: TAP will not occur on Thursday July 4th and Friday July 5th

Apprentice 1 is an entry-level position in The Apprentice Program.
Responsibilities Include:
Working with other Apprentice Artists, designing and creating individual pieces as well as collaborative works of art
Meeting with clients to discuss project ideas and details
Meeting deadlines for all projects
Tracking project time and expenses
Keeping a sketchbook for future reference and development
Maintaining an orderly and safe workplace
Actively participating in all discussions, activities, and projects
Minimum Job Requirements:
Participation with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and have fun;
Showing up to work on time and clocking in and out on ADP;
Dressing appropriately and safely for work each day;
Practice workplace professionalism;
Respecting fellow apprentices, staff, supervisors, and visitors.
Job Qualifications:
In high school or recently graduated;
Loves to make art and learn new things;
Considering a career in art, design, or a related profession;
Enjoys meeting new people and working in teams;
You are required to include 5 images of your work samples along with your application in the resume section. Please note that resumes are not mandatory.
