Job description

Job Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for performing vehicle maintenance and repair work with accuracy and efficiency in accordance with dealership, manufacturer, and industry standards. This position plays a key role in ensuring customer vehicles are serviced correctly and safely while supporting the Service Department's overall productivity and quality goals. The Service Technician is expected to diagnose issues, recommend necessary repairs, and maintain a high level of workmanship and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, following manufacturer and dealership standards.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections to identify necessary maintenance or repair needs.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and performance issues using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
  • Complete advanced repairs on engines, transmissions, suspension systems, and electrical components as trained and certified.
  • Document all work performed and recommended services clearly and accurately.

Quality Control and Safety
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Follow all dealership, manufacturer, and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to verify repair accuracy.
  • Report any additional repair needs or safety concerns to the Service Advisor.

Teamwork and Communication
  • Communicate effectively with Service Advisors and management regarding repair status and findings.
  • Collaborate with other technicians to share knowledge and improve efficiency.
  • Assist in training or mentoring apprentice technicians as directed.
  • Support a positive, cooperative, and professional work environment.

Documentation and Compliance
  • Record all repair details, parts used, and labor times on repair orders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of manufacturer service bulletins, recalls, and repair procedures.
  • Adhere to all dealership and manufacturer warranty policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to maintain required credentials.

Qualifications:
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an automotive technician or equivalent training.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins.
  • Proficiency with electronic diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s).
  • Manufacturer-specific training or certification.
  • Experience working in a franchised automotive dealership environment.
  • Ability to work on hybrid or electric vehicles.

Physical Requirements:
