Job description

HVAC Controls Technician Instructor

Lincoln Tech's WorkforceLinc Division (in partnership with Johnson Controls)

Be a positive contribution to the industry.

For experienced HVAC controls and building automation technicians, this role is about passing down the knowledge that keeps buildings running efficiently. You'll work directly with students and systems-turning real-world experience into real capability.

What You'll Do:

  • Teach hands-on troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of HVAC controls and building automation systems (BAS)
  • Demonstrate real-world diagnostics, safe work practices, and industry standards
  • Guide students through a structured, hands-on training model that moves from system setup and BAS fundamentals to equipment application and real-world troubleshooting
  • Train students on systems including:
    • DDC controls and BAS platforms
    • Sensors, actuators, and control wiring
    • HVAC system integration (air handlers, chillers, VFDs, VAVs)
    • Basic networking and communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus)
  • Coach students through live tasks, labs, and field-style problem solving
  • Track progress and provide clear, practical feedback
  • Help keep labs and equipment safe, organized, and industry-ready

This is hands-on leadership-not classroom theory.

What We're Looking For:

  • Professional experience with HVAC controls / building automation systems
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls integration
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and schematic interpretation
  • Solid technical/computer skills (controls software, BAS navigation, etc.)
  • Willingness to mentor and lead by example

No teaching background required-experience and credibility matter most.

Location & Travel:

  • Monday - Friday
  • Indianapolis (primary location)
  • Minimal travel

Requirements:

  • Experience with DDC controls, BAS, or HVAC controls systems

Nice to Have (Not Required):

  • Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys or similar platforms
  • BAS certifications or manufacturer training
  • Experience commissioning or programming controls systems

Why Experienced Techs Choose This Role:

  • Make a real impact on the future workforce
  • Stay connected to the systems you know best
  • Move into training without leaving the trade
  • Predictable schedule compared to field service
  • Pride in passing down correct, professional practices

Why Join Us?

At WorkforceLinc, we build training that reflects the reality of the field-not just theory. You'll be part of a team developing technicians who can step in and perform from day one.
