Description
Bailey sold its first forklift in 1949. Since then, Bailey has been a family-owned and operated business dedicated to selling, leasing, renting, servicing, and providing parts forklift trucks throughout the southeast. The Forklift Technician Apprentice will participate in a paid forklift technician apprentice development program that prepares entry-level hires to become a fully capable Junior Forklift Technician within 9 to 12 months. This position combines hands-on equipment work with classroom and on-the-job training to prepare candidates for independent repair and maintenance duties.
The Forklift Technician Apprentice under the supervision of trainers or experienced technicians will learn the safe operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of forklifts. Apprentice will learn how to perform planned maintenance (P.M.) service (change oil, filters, inspections etc.) and assist in scheduling maintenance work based on customer needs and requirements. Apprentice will learn to complete full inspections, check all components, especially all safety related items, and learn how to communicate with customers regarding equipment problems, repair costs and quotes, and complete necessary paperwork.
Essential Cohort Requirements:
Must successfully complete the 9 - 12-month training program and all program requirements
After the first 90 days, need to be able to travel three consecutive days once per month to one of the regional locations (Nashville, Knoxville or Chattanooga)
Must be able to work Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at assigned branch locations understanding hours could vary depending on customer needs
Requirements
After successfully completing the 9 - 12 - month training program the Forklift Technician Apprentice should be able to successfully complete the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform P.M. Service and inspections as directed. Get input from customers.
  • Make repairs or recommendations as needed using appropriate tools and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Clean the work area and return to pre-repair or better condition.
  • Maintain good working records for time, parts, supplies, and outside purchases in repairs. Maintain daily records of P.M.s for correct service billing. Write legibly.
  • Maintain and care for tools, equipment, and vehicles. Notify management of the need for repairs or replacements.
  • Participate in job related training, including supporting the safety program, and maintaining licenses and certifications to avoid expiration.
  • Represent Bailey as a professional by maintaining professional appearance, wearing uniforms, keeping the vehicle and work areas clean, and being courteous and informative with customers.
  • Handle other duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience/Training/Education:
Strong diagnostic and repair skills
Strong mechanical and technical skills
A technical school certificate or equivalent experience in mechanical repairs is preferred
Licenses Required:
Valid Driver's License
Forklift Certification (provided by Bailey)
