Chemours is seeking a Mechanical Apprentice to join our Maintenance team! This position will report directly to the Unit Manager. An apprenticeship is a post-secondary education that begins with finding an employer. Employers hire apprentices, typically pay their wages and provide on-the-job training and work experience. Approximately 60% of an apprentice's time is spent on the job under the supervision of a qualified Manager and Technician. The other 40% involves technical training provided at a post-secondary institution, i.e. Nashville State Community College, Humphrey County Campus. This is a part time position.
Location: New Johnsonville, Tennessee
Hours: Part-time: 29 hours per week
Preferred First Term: June 2026
Apprenticeship technical training is delivered by Nashville State. This process will be a cooperative education structure combining classroom-based education with practical work experience at the Chemours Site as a LSE Employee. Upon satisfactorily completing four semesters of the program the apprentice will receive an Associate's Degree in Industrial Process Control Technology. After successfully completing semester four and applicable NCCER exams, the apprentice could begin a two-year on-site training progression as a full service Chemours Trainee. During their training period they will work in defined crew rotations. Apprentices will receive competitive wages with the opportunity to increase as the student progresses through the program. Apprentices will work on-site during school technical training breaks, i.e. summer and Christmas breaks. Beginning the second semester the apprentices will work on-site M-W-F and attend classes at Nashville State on T-Th. Apprentices will be paid for the hours worked on-site only.
  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll at Nashville State Community College, Humphrey County Campus and be 18 years of age by March 1, 2026
  • Understand the hazards associated with working in an industrial setting and the safety precautions involved
  • Possess practical knowledge in pipefitting, millwright and general maintenance skills
  • Have a thorough knowledge of interpreting blueprints
  • Learn to create isometric drawings of piping configurations
  • Learn basic welding principles and practices
  • Comprehend laser alignment and the importance of properly aligned machinery
  • Master basic knowledge for the repair, fabrication and assembly of mechanical assemblies with complete ability in making pneumatic, hydraulic and process joints and seals.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Candidate must have the interest and aptitude to learn new technologies and systems

  • Strong value for safety, health and environment

The following is required for this role:
  • High School Diploma/GED (must be on course to complete by June 2026)
  • Enrolled in and meet pre-requisites for Nashville State MTEC program. Must maintain satisfactory scores in all courses/work related to this apprenticeship program. Satisfactory scores are grades of C or higher (which is what NSCC and federal financial aid require to maintain satisfactory performance). If a grade of D or lower is made in any of the courses/work related to this apprenticeship program, the student will be exited from the program.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and solve problems
  • Display troubleshooting ability and strong work ethics
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders. safely lift up to 50 lbs., and use hand tools
  • Must be able to work outdoors and wear various protective equipment during daily work schedule
