Summary
The Controls Installer is responsible for installing the field devices, wiring, communication networks, panels, and infrastructure that support Building Automation Systems. This role is a critical link between construction and controls technology, helping ensure systems are installed correctly and ready for successful commissioning. Work is performed with a focus on safety, accuracy, quality, and clear jobsite communication.
Duties Include:
- Install control panels, sensors, actuators, controllers, low-voltage wiring, and related BAS field devices.
- Route, pull, label, and terminate communication cables and control circuits.
- Install conduit, raceways, supports, and electrical infrastructure as required by the project.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, control drawings, wiring diagrams, and job instructions.
- Assist with system checkout, testing, commissioning, and punch list items as assigned.
- Coordinate with Controls Technicians, electricians, HVAC technicians, contractors, and other trades.
- Maintain safe work practices and follow Enervise and customer jobsite safety requirements at all times.
- Ensure installations meet company standards, project requirements, and applicable codes.
- Track materials, communicate job progress, and identify installation issues timely.
- Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites.
Job Qualifications & Physical Requirements
- Must demonstrate knowledge of low-voltage wiring, controls installation practices, electrical systems, and jobsite safety requirements.
- Must be able to read and apply wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, control drawings, and installation details.
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to install devices, wiring, and panels accurately and neatly.
- Must be capable of working in construction environments, mechanical rooms, rooftops, occupied customer facilities, and varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Must be capable of exerting physical effort required for field work, including lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs., climbing ladders, working from lifts, pulling cable, bending conduit, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, and using hand and power tools.
- Hearing, vision, depth perception, and communication abilities must be sufficient to safely complete installations, identify hazards, and communicate with customers and team members.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of controls installation, low-voltage electrical, HVAC, or related construction experience
- Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Ability to use standard electrical testing equipment and hand tools
- Ability to pass required background check and drug screening requirements
Education and Experience:
- Technical trade school education or related training preferred.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) preferred.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- Experience installing BACnet, Modbus, and IP-based control networks preferred.
- Electrical apprenticeship or low-voltage installation experience preferred.
