Position Summary:The Culinary Arts Teacher position will focus on training students cooking techniques and providing an industry overview. This teacher will inspire and motivate students through hands-on instruction, classroom lectures and academic instruction. Student performance will be evaluated through tests, assignments, and projects. Provide constructive feedback to encourage student improvement and growth in their skill and knowledge of culinary arts. The Culinary Arts Teacher must possess or be able to obtain an Indiana Workplace Specialist Teaching License, and meet continuing education requirements to maintain teaching certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Implementation
  • Equipped with academic aptitude, personal integrity
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of culinary industry, tailoring lessons to engage students while expanding their knowledge and passion for the subject
  • Display strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication with administration, staff, colleagues, students and parents.
  • Demonstrate strong technical skills, particularly in integrating technology in classroom
  • Serve as a role model for our students and community
  • Attend professional development and meetings as requested
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by director, principal and other administrative staff as designated by the superintendent

Instructional Leadership
  • Present and engaged in classroom with direct kitchen training sessions
  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school districts objective and state standards
  • Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade-standard in an interactive learning environment to achieve exceptional results for all students
  • Tailoring specific topics to expand student knowledge and passion for the culinary industry.
  • Manage the classroom with effective leadership.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Be positive and creative to encourage all students to participate and learn.
  • Invoke approved disciplinary procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Family Consumer Science or Vocational Home Economics 7-12 teaching license
    OR
  • Workplace Specialist license in Culinary Arts or Food Service Occupational field as detailed below:
    Eligibility for the Workplace Specialist I License:

โ€ข Workplace Specialist I: Initial (Two-year license)
โ€ข Minimum requirement: High School Diploma. A first applicant must send in a photocopy.
โ€ข Must be twenty-one (21) years of age
โ€ข Employment in an accredited educational program to teach in a specific vocational area. If working through the Food Service Industry, the applicant must submit a letter on Corporation letterhead indicating that employment will occur if license is obtained.
โ€ข Occupational experience (Select one):
โ€ข 5,000 hours (about 2.5 years of experience) in the last five (5) years.
โ€ข 4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and demonstration of occupational competency tests.
โ€ข 4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and evidence of occupational licensure or occupational proficiency based on approved regional, state, or national board training and evaluation.
โ€ข 4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and completion of an accredited 2-year or higher degree in the specific certification area
โ€ข 4,000 hours (about 2 years) in the past ten (10) years and completion of an apprenticeship or internship program.
Note: All occupational experience must be verified by submitting letters from current or former employees specifying and considering the following:
โ€ข job titles and duties;
โ€ข hours worked per week;
โ€ข starting/ ending dates;
โ€ข the name and title of the employer;
โ€ข must be on company letterhead;
โ€ข work experience in the certification area only will be accepted;
โ€ข verification for self-employed: Submit the Profit/Loss statements from the federal income tax returns.
