What is Applitools?

Applitools is a software platform that provides visual AI testing solutions for web and mobile applications. It is primarily used by developers and QA teams to automate visual testing and ensure that user interfaces look and function correctly across different browsers and devices. Applitools uses machine learning to detect visual differences and UI regressions, streamlining the process of maintaining high-quality user experiences. Its main product, the Applitools Eyes, integrates with popular testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to provide fast and reliable visual validation.

What are the typical responsibilities of a quality assurance engineer working with Applitools?

A Quality Assurance Engineer using Applitools is usually responsible for designing and executing visual test automation, maintaining test scripts, and integrating Applitools with other test frameworks like Selenium or Cypress. They regularly review visual test results, analyze differences, and collaborate with developers to resolve UI inconsistencies. The role often involves close teamwork with developers and product managers to ensure high-quality user interfaces. Additionally, QA Engineers may help optimize test coverage and refine testing strategies to improve product reliability and user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Applitools test automation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Applitools Test Automation Engineer, you need strong experience in automated testing, programming (often in Java, JavaScript, or Python), and a solid understanding of software quality assurance principles. Familiarity with Applitools Eyes, Selenium, Cypress, and CI/CD tools, along with relevant certifications in test automation, is typically required. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are critical soft skills for diagnosing visual discrepancies and collaborating with development teams. These skills ensure accurate visual validation, efficient test maintenance, and high-quality software releases.

Job description

About Applied Intuition

Applied Intuition, Inc. is powering the future of physical AI. Founded in 2017 and now valued at $15 billion, the Silicon Valley company is creating the digital infrastructure needed to bring intelligence to every moving machine on the planet. Applied Intuition services the automotive, defense, trucking, construction, mining and agriculture industries in three core areas: tools and infrastructure, operating systems, and autonomy. Eighteen of the top 20 global automakers, as well as the United States military and its allies, trust the company’s solutions to deliver physical intelligence. Applied Intuition is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, with offices in Washington, D.C.; San Diego; Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Ann Arbor, Michigan; London; Stuttgart; Munich; Stockholm; Bangalore; Seoul; and Tokyo. Learn more at applied.co.

We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments.

About the Role

We are looking for a founding UX Validation Lead to build and lead our UX/HMI validation practice from the ground up. You will define the bridge between early‑stage HMI concepts and production‑grade software quality. This is a hands‑on role: you will set the test approach, build the automation infrastructure, and grow a team of test engineers into domain test specialists.

What You'll Do
  • Define and drive the end-to-end HMI/UX validation strategy, establishing quality standards for display logic, control flows, and user experience across the platform.

  • Build and scale automated UI testing infrastructure, including test harnesses, simulators, visual regression frameworks, and CI/CD integration to enable efficient validation from HIL to full‑vehicle testing.

  • Lead cross‑functional efforts to debug complex UI and system issues, partner with TPM and validation teams on feature test plans, and mentor a high‑performing test engineering team.

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of software validation experience, with significant depth in UI/UX, display, or HMI testing.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • Proven experience owning a validation domain, defining test strategy, methodology, and automation infrastructure from the ground up.

  • Strong background in automated UI testing and validation, including frameworks such as Appium and end‑to‑end test planning from requirements through release sign‑off.

  • Experience with Linux, QNX, or Android Automotive (AAOS), with an understanding of automotive networking (CAN, Ethernet) and its interaction with HMI systems.

Nice to Have
  • Deep expertise in Android Automotive OS (AAOS) or QNX.

  • Visual regression tools (e.g., Applitools, Percy).

  • Modern CI/CD tooling (e.g., Buildkite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
