Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Psychology, within the Hairston College of Healthand Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and TechnicalState University, is seeking an assistant or associate professorwith a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology . Preferencewill be given to candidates with a research focus in 1) substanceuse disorders, 2) memory and cognition, 3) applied psychology, or4) health psychology. The selected candidate will be expected toprovide student-centered instruction in undergraduate courses intheir discipline. They will also teach graduate-level courses forthe MS in Health Psychology and the PhD in Applied Psychology incourses aligned with their area of expertise.
Faculty in this role are expected to contribute to studentadvising, mentoring, curriculum development, and engage in programassessment. The ideal candidate will be expected to: (i) establishand sustain a strong, externally-funded research program alignedwith their field of expertise; (ii) produce an excellent record ofscholarly publications; (iii) incorporate modern pedagogical skillsin undergraduate and graduate psychology courses; (iv) superviseand support psychology students in independent research projects;and (v) engage in service at the department, college and universityas well as to appropriate community and professionalorganizations.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina A & T State University is a public land granthigh research institution that is committed to teaching andlearning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagementand public service. The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and HumanSciences ( HCHHS ) is comprised of six departments and the Schoolof Nursing. The HCHHS offers the following undergraduate degreeprograms; Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health ServicesManagement, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, andSociology. At the graduate level, HCHHS offers four graduate degreeprograms including the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA ), Master of Social Work ( MSW ), Master of Science in HealthPsychology and Ph.D. in Social Work, PhD in Applied Psychology, andDoctor of Nursing Practice ( DNP ). The HCHHS is also home to theCenter of Excellence in Integrative Health Disparities and EquityResearch ( CIHDER ), which serves as a multidisciplinary hub forresearch and community engagement aimed at advancing health forall. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships betweenthese departments to develop advanced academic programming, enhancethe mentoring of trainees, and conduct collaborativemultidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.
The Department of Psychology is a supportive community of committedfaculty and practitioners whose goals are to introduce students tothe ideas and concepts relevant to this discipline, encourageinterdisciplinary learning, prepare students for study in graduateschool, prepare students for entry-level jobs requiring knowledgein psychology, and train students to conduct both basic and appliedresearch. These goals are achieved through quality classroominstruction, departmental colloquia, departmental studentorganizations, internship opportunities through independent study,and individualized research projects. The Department of Psychologyhas 980 enrolled undergraduate students and 45 graduate students.The department is seeking candidates to join a growing program witha highly interactive and productive faculty.
Minimum Requirements
· Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely relatedPsychology sub-discipline, at the time of appointment.
