Job description

The Applications Engineer works with sales, engineering, scheduling, operations, procurement, and accounting to configure and quote Delkor packaging solutions. They lead quoting projects consisting of system costing reports, system layout drawings and system proposals and present quoted projects both internally to Delkor management and externally to Delkor customers and sales managers. The Applications Engineer is the subject matter expert on all company commercial product lines.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead quoting projects:
    • System costing reports.
      • Responsible for preparing detailed and accurate project hard metal data using Microsoft Dynamics Navision and the project labor data using Delkor SQL Reports. This information is used to dictate lead-time, profit margins, and customer sell prices.
    • System layout drawings.
      • Responsible for preparing detailed and accurate project layout drawings. The layout shows the system dimensions, machine utility requirements, and critical system callout such as utility locations and elevations.
    • System proposals.
      • Responsible for preparing a detailed and accurate project proposal. The proposal includes customer information, machine sell prices, project scope details, project lead-time, conditions of sale, terms and conditions.
    • Present quoted projects and product positioning to the Quote Review Committee on a daily basis.
    • Maintain expert level of knowledge regarding all Delkor product lines.
    • Financial responsibility
      • Develop the financial data for all assigned Delkor projects and how it dictates performance of the project.
      • Able to thoroughly understand and communicate the financial impacts of any Delkor business decision.
    • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging, or equivalent preferred; or two-year technical degree plus 3+ years of job experience in a similar role with demonstrated effective technical skills.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Capital Equipment and/or Industrial Automation Manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a “make-to-order” or “engineer-to-order” environment preferred.

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Able to draft, read, understand and analyze engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Navision a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of the steps to effective selling and customer relationship building.
  • Advanced business math skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills; strong capacity to incorporate critical thinking into the decision- making process.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce written communication at a professional business level.
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively (verbally and/or non-verbally) to individuals and groups, internally and externally, to exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately.
  • Works well with a variety of people and personalities, and with other Delkor departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit at a desk or in meetings for extended periods including performing extensive computer tasks.
  • Stand and walk for a portion of the day to interact with other employees.
  • Lift 10 – 40 pounds on occasion.
  • Possess arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, hold, reach, carry, push and pull packaging, supplies and samples.
  • Able to judge distances and space relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances, including reading spreadsheets and other documents.
  • Communicate effectively to give and receive detailed information through verbal and/or non-verbal communication in person or using the telephone; exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately to customers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors and others inside and outside the company.

Work Environment

  • Approximately ninety percent (90%) of the work duties are performed in an office setting, carrying out detail work sitting at a desk and working on the computer.
  • Approximately ten percent (10%) of the work is performed on an assembly floor with expose to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals, and plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises and odors from production processes.
  • Able to travel on short notice for job related activities (estimated 5-10% annual travel)

Tools and Equipment

  • Use general office equipment such as computer, printer, telephone, copiers, e-mail and other such equipment.

Salary Range

  • The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $95,000. At Delkor, we are committed to ensuring that each employee’s compensation reflects their experience, performance, and skills relevant to their current role. This salary range accounts for various factors considered in the hiring process, including but not limited to education, skills, work experience, and certifications. As a result, the final salary offer for the selected candidate(s) may fall anywhere within this range.
