Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Team Lead to lead the newly formed Application Network Services team within WWT's internal IT organization. This team is the engineering owner of the platforms that deliver WWT's enterprise applications - F5 BIG-IP LTM, GTM, and F5 Distributed Cloud (XC) - and is accountable for keeping those applications available, performant, and secure. Reporting to the Manager of Network Services, you will lead a team of four engineers, including senior and mid-level talent.

This is a working leadership role where you will split your time between hands-on engineering work and leading people. You will lead and develop the engineers on your team, own the technical architecture and standards for application delivery across our on-premises and cloud-delivered environments, and manage our relationship with F5 and our managed service partners. The ideal candidate is a deeply technical F5 practitioner who wants to grow as a leader, sets clear technical direction, champions strong support for application teams, and brings an automate-first mindset to the work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four application delivery engineers, including goal setting, regular one-on-ones, performance reviews and ratings, and compensation recommendations
  • Remain hands-on in the technology, personally configuring and operating F5 platforms alongside the team for a portion of your time
  • Own the technical architecture, standards, and roadmap for application delivery across F5 BIG-IP LTM and GTM on premises and F5 Distributed Cloud (XC)
  • Set the standard for how the team supports application teams with network connectivity and delivery of their applications through our F5 platforms
  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex application delivery, connectivity, performance, and availability issues
  • Lead the design and delivery of significant application delivery initiatives, including globally distributed and multi-region delivery models
  • Define and govern how applications are onboarded onto our F5 platforms, including design patterns, configuration standards, and validation practices
  • Own the Web Application Firewall (WAF) policy approach and edge protection posture on our F5 platforms, in coordination with internal security teams and managed service partners
  • Play a leading role in managing the F5 vendor and partner relationship, including day-to-day engagement with our managed service partners, service quality, escalations, periodic service reviews, and participation in the F5 Flexible Consumption Program (FCP) true-up
  • Balance and prioritize team workload across project commitments and operational demands, and communicate status and risk clearly to leadership
  • Build depth and cross-coverage across the team so that critical platform knowledge is shared rather than concentrated in individuals
  • Champion an automate-first culture, driving adoption of automation and modern AI-assisted tooling to reduce repetitive effort and improve consistency and speed
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, security, and cloud engineering teams to deliver secure and scalable application connectivity patterns
  • Evaluate emerging application delivery and edge security capabilities and recommend where WWT should adopt them
  • Partner with the Manager of Network Services on hiring, staffing, and the continued growth of the team
  • Participate in and support an on-call rotation for our application delivery platforms

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of hands-on IT and network engineering experience, including substantial experience with enterprise application delivery platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A combination of equivalent education, training, and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience leading a technical team, whether as a people leader, team lead, or senior engineer with formal mentorship and technical direction responsibility
  • Deep hands-on expertise with F5 BIG-IP LTM, including virtual servers, pools, monitors, profiles, iRules, data groups, and certificate management
  • Strong working knowledge of DNS and global traffic management, including F5 GTM, wide IPs, DNS zones, and record management
  • Hands-on experience with F5 Distributed Cloud (XC) or a comparable cloud-delivered application delivery platform, with the ability to set technical direction for F5 XC adoption
  • Experience designing application delivery architectures spanning on-premises and cloud-delivered platforms
  • Experience with Web Application Firewall (WAF) policy design, tuning, and enforcement
  • Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/SSL, routing, switching, and firewalls
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with application owners and development teams, translating delivery requirements into effective designs and explaining technical concepts clearly
  • Automation experience paired with an automate-first mindset, including the ability to leverage modern AI toolsets and drive their adoption across a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and lead effectively in a fast-paced enterprise environment with shifting demands
