Job description

The B2C Application Development Manager leads our ecommerce development teams. This leadership role will focus on building and enhancing customer-facing applications, with a strong emphasis on scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions. The ideal candidate is both a technical expert and a strong people leader with deep experience in B2C ecommerce platforms, preferably within a cloud environment (GCP or other).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Lead and manage a team of software developers responsible for building and maintaining B2C ecommerce systems.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and performance management to direct reports.
  • Conduct code reviews, ensure best practices in development, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Partner with IT and the Business to deliver robust, customer-centric features on time.
  • Oversee the entire SDLC, from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Champion a cloud-first strategy, preferably with experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other cloud technologies.
  • Develop strategies for scaling applications, improving system reliability, and enhancing user experience.
  • Promote agile development practices, continuous integration, and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams and stakeholders to align goals and ensure a consistent customer experience.
  • Maintain a strong technical presence while developing team leadership and succession planning.

SKILLS/EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/ABILITIES
Required:
10+ years of software development experience and/or supervisory experience in an area applicable to O'Reilly
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field ( 8+ years O'Reilly software development or functional experience considered in lieu of degree)
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Strong project management skills with the ability to set targets, design improvement plans, and deliver results
Expert knowledge of established programming procedures and programming languages related to the position and technology base
Exceptional problem-solving, conflict resolution, and mediation skills
Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications
Ability to assess and maintain quality of programming structure, design, and coding
Ability to write technical instructions in the use of programs and/or program modifications
Must work well in a team environment with a proven ability to lead and motivate team members
Flexible scheduling availability including nights/weekends
