Job Posting Title:

Senior Application Engineer

Req ID:

10153224

Job Description:

The Disney Decision Science and Integration (DDSI) team leverages advanced technologies, data analytics, and scientific approaches such as optimization and statistical modeling to build innovative tools that shape business decisions across The Walt Disney Company. We support Disney Entertainment (ABC, The Walt Disney Studios, Disney+, Hulu), ESPN, Disney Experiences (Theme Parks, Cruise Line, Consumer Products, DVC), and Corporate Finance with strategic applications that enable data-driven decision-making.

As a Senior Application Engineer on the DDSI team, you will design, build, and ship strategic software applications that enable internal business decision-makers to view and manage data related to decision science workflows. These applications range from web-based end-user experiences to RESTful APIs, AI-powered services, and orchestrated data pipelines. You'll leverage modern AI capabilities to solve complex business problems in an environment that values creative problem-solving and collaboration.

You'll evaluate and ship emerging AI tools into real workflows - not just prototype them. This is a team that iterates rapidly, researches what's next, and brings new capabilities to the organization. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical direction and architectural decisions across the platform. This role is built for engineers who are detail-oriented, think in systems, and thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.

What You'll Do
  • Own features end-to-end - from requirements through deployment - working directly with Product Managers and stakeholders

  • Build intuitive interfaces that help both users and AI agents surface, understand, and act on complex data at scale

  • Contribute to product direction by providing technical input on workflows, feasibility, and user experience - not just building to spec

  • Research and integrate AI capabilities - from LLMs to agent frameworks - into production applications

  • Guide and support other engineers through code reviews and technical mentorship

  • Contribute across multiple projects as team priorities evolve

  • Write tests, maintain code quality, and uphold engineering excellence across the team

  • Work daily alongside other Application Engineers, Product Designers, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists

What We're Looking For
  • Strong full-stack developer who can move fluidly between front-end and back-end work

  • Business and technical knowledge to design and develop complex features end-to-end

  • Ability to build applications that address complex data problems with user-friendly solutions

  • Ability to lead technical project assignments - managing priorities, adapting to changing requirements, and resolving issues within the team

  • Clear communicator who can articulate technical findings and tradeoffs both verbally and in writing

Required Experience
  • 5+ years of front-end experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React

  • 2+ years of experience with Python

  • Experience with React frameworks and build tools (Next.js, Vite, or similar)

  • Experience with TypeScript

  • Experience with Python web frameworks (Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar)

  • Experience building REST APIs and full-stack web applications

  • Experience with real-time streaming patterns (SSE, WebSockets, or similar)

  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar) and writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience building applications that process large and complex volumes of data at scale

  • Experience with Docker and containerized deployments

  • Experience with AWS services (ECS, Lambda, or similar)

  • Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines

How To Stand Out
  • Experience integrating LLMs into production applications (AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, or similar)

  • Experience with vector databases and semantic search

  • Experience with AI agent frameworks, MCP (Model Context Protocol), or A2A (Agent-to-Agent) protocols

  • Hands-on use of GenAI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate development workflows

  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or similar)

  • Experience evaluating and rolling out team software tools and component libraries

  • Experience building multi-tenant applications with complex access control

  • Experience building search and discovery interfaces

  • Experience with test automation, integration testing strategies, or observability tooling

  • Experience with data governance, RBAC, or ABAC systems

Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study and/or equivalent work experience

  • Master's degree preferred in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study and/or equivalent work experience
