All current employees must have a performance rating of Outstanding or High-Performing to be eligible to post for a position.
General Position Scope:
Under the general direction of the Systems Engineering Manager, the Senior Systems Engineer serves as a senior-level individual technical contributor responsible for the design, implementation, modernization, security, resiliency, and lifecycle management of BankPlus enterprise infrastructure systems.
This role provides advanced technical leadership across enterprise infrastructure, identity services, virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, monitoring, endpoint security, vulnerability management, disaster recovery, automation, and architecture. The Senior Systems Engineer independently leads complex technical initiatives, serves as an escalation point for high-impact issues, improves operational maturity, and translates business, regulatory, cybersecurity, risk, and availability requirements into secure, supportable, and sustainable technical solutions. Exceptional customer service is a key expectation.
The position expands upon the responsibilities of a Systems Engineer, which include installation, support, troubleshooting, monitoring, documentation, cybersecurity participation, and end-user service delivery. At the senior level, the role is expected to own enterprise-scale engineering outcomes, lead technical strategy execution, reduce operational risk, and deliver measurable improvements in reliability, security, performance, and cost efficiency.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise systems infrastructure, including Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, storage systems, backup platforms, monitoring systems, endpoint management, and related infrastructure services.
  • Translate business, regulatory, cybersecurity, risk, and availability requirements into practical, secure, supportable, and sustainable technical solutions.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex incidents, performance issues, infrastructure outages, security events, and cross-platform problems affecting BankPlus systems and business operations.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization projects, including platform replacements, data center migrations, disaster recovery improvements, storage upgrades, backup solution replacements, endpoint protection improvements, and system availability enhancements.
  • Engineer and support resilient infrastructure and network architectures that improve uptime, reduce recovery time, support defined recovery point objectives, account for infrastructure dependencies and capacity requirements, and align with business, regulatory, and operational resiliency needs.
  • Maintain enterprise architecture standards, system design patterns, operational procedures, implementation documentation, and lifecycle management practices.
  • Lead and support identity and access management engineering, including Active Directory architecture, Group Policy, certificate services, authentication dependencies, and related security controls.
  • Lead disaster recovery preparedness, failover planning, backup validation, recovery testing, and operational readiness exercises.
  • Design, implement, and improve cybersecurity-related infrastructure controls, including vulnerability management, patching processes, least privilege, disk encryption, endpoint protection, IPS/IDS integration, privileged access controls, segmentation support, secure system configuration, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, networking, application, operations, audit, compliance, and business teams to ensure systems are engineered and operated in accordance with BankPlus policies, regulatory expectations, risk management standards, and business objectives.
  • Plan, deploy, monitor, and maintain enterprise systems, servers, network-adjacent infrastructure, hardware platforms, applications, security initiatives, and governance or compliance standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues across systems, identity, virtualization, storage, backup, networking dependencies, endpoint security, monitoring, and application infrastructure; identify root cause, reduce recurrence, and document corrective actions.
  • Lead technical design and implementation efforts involving virtualization, cloud or hosted platforms, software-defined networking integrations, storage modernization, automation, monitoring, and enterprise service platforms.
  • Develop automation using PowerShell, scripting, APIs, AI-assisted workflows, configuration tools, dashboards, version control, testing frameworks, or deployment pipelines to improve reliability, repeatability, monitoring, reporting, and incident response.
  • Establish and improve structured engineering practices, including peer-reviewed designs, architecture diagrams, implementation plans, standardized documentation, standard operating procedures, escalation guides, repeatable implementation methods, change control improvements, and consistent operational handoff.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement infrastructure technologies that improve security posture, operational efficiency, service availability, scalability, cost effectiveness, and user experience.
  • Provide technical leadership without direct management responsibility by mentoring engineers and administrators, reviewing technical designs, guiding troubleshooting efforts, and raising the engineering maturity of the team.
  • Participate in vendor management, stakeholder engagement, solution evaluation, statement-of-work review, implementation planning, cost analysis, and operational transition for infrastructure-related services and products.
  • Maintain, improve, and enforce infrastructure monitoring, alerting, capacity management, asset lifecycle, patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and technology roadmap recommendations for systems infrastructure platforms and services.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance, escalation, incident response, disaster recovery testing, and on-call rotation as required.
  • Provide excellent internal customer service by communicating timely and effectively with internal customers, understanding technical issues and business needs, and ensuring high-quality support outcomes while maintaining engineering discipline, operational controls, and security standards.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of BankPlus products, services, policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory issues related to daily job functions, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, Privacy Act, Fair Lending Act, Regulation E, information security standards, and other required compliance obligations. Complete required compliance training and adhere to the Bank's standard of conduct.
