Position Summary
IPTA is seeking an API Developer to design, develop, and deploy RESTful APIs that provide programmatic access to enterprise data sources. This role focuses on modernizing data access by creating secure, scalable APIs for SQL databases, legacy systems, and file-based data stores. The ideal candidate will have strong software development skills and experience integrating diverse data sources into unified API interfaces.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs for enterprise data sources
  • Create API endpoints for SQL databases, legacy systems, and file storage systems
  • Implement API authentication and authorization using OAuth and API key mechanisms
  • Develop API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger specifications
  • Optimize API performance and implement caching strategies
  • Integrate with object storage and network file systems
  • Collaborate with data teams to understand data structures and requirements
  • Work with application developers to define API contracts and interfaces
  • Implement API versioning and backward compatibility strategies
  • Develop API monitoring, logging, and error handling solutions
  • Ensure API security best practices and data protection
  • Perform API testing including unit, integration, and load testing
  • Maintain and enhance existing APIs based on user feedback
  • Support legacy system modernization through API abstraction layers

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • 10 years of software development experience
  • Strong experience developing RESTful APIs
  • Proficiency in one or more languages: JavaScript/Node.js, Python, Go, or C#
  • Experience with SQL databases and writing SQL queries
  • Knowledge of API authentication mechanisms (OAuth, API keys)
  • Understanding of API design principles and best practices
  • Experience with API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI)
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Active Security Clearance required
  • DoD 8570 Level II/III certification desired
