About the team:
The Kubernetes Engineering team is responsible for designing, operating, and modernizing Mastercard's enterprise Kubernetes platform, supporting approximately 500 Amazon EKS and Azure AKS clusters across multiple global regions. This team enables the infrastructure that powers a global payments network, driving initiatives such as GitOps-based deployments with Argo CD, cloud-agnostic networking solutions using Kubernetes Gateway API, policy-driven security and compliance automation, platform onboarding for new business units, and fleet-wide observability and cost optimization. Team members work across a broad technology stack, including Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, infrastructure-as-code, container networking, cloud security, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems.
As a Platform Engineering Intern, you will contribute to meaningful, real-world engineering projects that enhance platform scalability, reliability, automation, and developer experience. You will gain hands-on experience with industry-leading technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, GitOps, Helm, and infrastructure-as-code while collaborating with engineers who operate one of the largest Kubernetes environments in the financial services industry. This internship provides a unique opportunity to develop highly sought-after cloud-native engineering skills and make a direct impact on systems that support billions of transactions worldwide.
What we're looking for:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelors degree, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
- Exposure to or foundational knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Understanding of containerization technologies, including Kubernetes, Docker, and container-based application deployment.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, or similar technologies.
- Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems, including command-line navigation, system administration, and troubleshooting.
- Strong interest in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, automation, and modern DevOps practices.
- This role is not eligible for Mastercard's work authorization sponsorship. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
