An API 653 Tank Inspector is a certified professional who inspects, assesses, and ensures the integrity of aboveground storage tanks according to the standards set by the American Petroleum Institute (API) 653 code. Their main responsibilities include evaluating tank conditions, identifying potential issues such as corrosion or leaks, and recommending necessary repairs or maintenance to keep tanks safe and compliant with regulations. API 653 inspectors play a critical role in industries like oil and gas, where proper tank maintenance is essential for environmental safety and operational efficiency. To become certified, inspectors must meet specific education and experience requirements and pass the API 653 examination.

These skills ensure tanks operate safely and compliantly, preventing environmental hazards and costly failures.

What are some typical challenges faced by an API 653 Tank Inspector during field inspections?

API 653 Tank Inspectors often encounter challenges such as accessing difficult-to-reach areas of large storage tanks, accurately identifying corrosion or structural defects under varying environmental conditions, and ensuring compliance with both client-specific and regulatory standards.
