Accounts Payable Manager (Temp-to-Hire) Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid preferred) Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire Compensation: $40-$45/hr About the Opportunity Our client, a growing organization in the Chicago area, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of the AP function. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, leading a team, and driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full-cycle accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices.
  • Supervise and mentor AP staff, providing coaching, training, and performance support.
  • Review invoice coding, approvals, and payment processing to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Lead month-end close activities related to accounts payable, including reconciliations and accruals.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Procurement, and business leaders to resolve discrepancies and improve workflows.
  • Monitor AP aging and vendor relationships to ensure strong service levels.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with audits by providing supporting documentation and responding to requests.
  • Maintain compliance with tax regulations, company policies, and accounting standards.
  • Prepare reporting and metrics for leadership regarding AP performance and cash flow planning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounts payable experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of AP best practices, internal controls, and accounting principles.
  • Experience working in an ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics 365, Workday, or similar.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading an AP department through process improvements or system implementations.
  • Background in manufacturing, distribution, professional services, or corporate environments.
  • Experience managing high invoice volumes and multiple entities.
