Job description

The Director of Operations, AoPS Online is responsible for the operational health, quality, and scalability of AoPS's Online School and Virtual Campus. This role leads the Online Instruction and Operations teams and serves as the primary operational partner to cross-functional teams including Education, Product, Marketing, Growth, and Customer Service. The Director sets and drives execution of operational strategy, ensures Online programs deliver a consistently high-quality student experience, and builds the systems, staffing, and scheduling capacity needed to support continued growth. This is a key role in the AoPS Leadership Team requiring a track record in educational operations, organizational development, and cross-functional influence.

The Director of Operations, AoPS Online will:

  • Directly hire, manage, develop, and retain the Online Instruction and Operations teams, establishing clear performance expectations and development pathways
  • Provide operational leadership across AoPS Online School and Virtual Campus, ensuring consistent standards in staffing, scheduling, onboarding, training, and day-to-day program management
  • Partner closely with the Director of Education to implement instructional quality standards and best practices across Online programs, translating academic direction into operational execution and holding the instructional team accountable to quality outcomes
  • In partnership with the Director of Education, L&D, HR, and Talent Acquisition, develop and continuously improve talent management strategies for instructional and operations staff, including hiring frameworks, training programs, and performance management processes
  • Partner with Business Operations to develop and maintain class schedules for the Online School and Virtual Campus, integrating enrollment history, emerging demand trends, and instructor availability to produce schedules that are educationally sound, operationally efficient, and financially responsible
  • Own the Online Operations budget and program-level P&L performance; define, track, and drive KPIs in alignment with organizational objectives, partnering with Finance and functional leaders on planning and reporting cycles
  • Serve as the operational lead in Online enrollment and retention strategy, partnering with Marketing, Growth, and Customer Service to develop and refine enrollment and re-enrollment approaches, and holding accountability for enrollment outcomes
  • Drive operational change initiatives across Online programs, including process redesign, systems adoption, and quality improvement, ensuring transitions are managed with clear communication and organizational continuity
  • In partnership with Legal, HR, and Product, ensure Online programs maintain safe, compliant digital environments for students and families, including operational adherence to student data privacy standards, online safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements such as COPPA

The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in educational operations or a multi-program services environment, with 3+ years managing team leads or managers
  • A demonstrated track record of driving operational performance, including accountability for P&L, KPIs, and budget management
  • Experience developing and implementing talent management strategies for instructional staff, including hiring, training, and performance management at scale
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with a history of influencing outcomes across functions without direct authority

  • Direct experience with online or virtual program delivery
  • Deep familiarity with K-12 learners and the expectations of their families, with genuine appreciation for AoPS's academic mission and the standards it requires
  • Advanced education in a technical subject area, education, or business
