Job description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides punctual and dependable substitute coverage for classes in both the Middle and Upper School and assumes other daily duties of absent teachers as needed.
  • Implements lesson plans left by teachers in a way that maintains the integrity of academic time and motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Adheres to and reinforces the policies and procedures governing faculty and students in each division.
  • Works with colleagues in ways that foster professional collaboration and exchange.
  • Actively supports the school's diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism work in furtherance of Cary Academy's commitment to equity and justice. Completes all required administrative and operational tasks and activities in a responsive and timely manner per school operating policies and procedures. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
The individual in this potion is expected to:
  • Implement a wide variety of lesson plans in accordance with instructions left by teachers.
  • Manage a classroom effectively at both the Middle and Upper School level.
  • Establish meaningful relationships with students in a way that fosters their development.
  • Use and support students in the use of tablet PCs in a 1:1 computing environment.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all constituent groups.
  • Work collegially with employees, parents and members of the Cary Academy and external community in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and interact with students, parents, and employees as well as internal and external constituents with sensitivity and understanding.
  • Perform position responsibilities in a professional manner that models and ensures a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and work environment and upholds the school's commitment to its cornerstones (the mission, the vision, the values, the beliefs, the employee culture and the portraits of a teacher and a graduate).
  • Meet the expectation of regular, predictable, and reliable attendance.

Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
Experience: At least 1 year of full-time work experience supervising secondary-school students
Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
WORK SCHEDULE
Days: In general, faculty are scheduled to work Monday through Friday as needed. Dates and times are determined by the Middle school or Upper School within the academic calendar
Hours: In general, faculty are expected to work on campus Monday-Friday when school is in session. Substitute working hours for any school day varies depending upon the scheduled start time in each division and meetings or activities that may be required before or after school.
