Job description

Nocturnist needed in Central Valley of California

  • Private hospitalist group that is locally managed. They have around 60 providers total including hospitalists, APP s, Intensivists and Palliative care.
  • Group has been in the same hospital for 25 years and are still under the same management. Very stable provider in the community.
  • Group covers two local sister hospitals that are only 20 minutes apart.
  • Located 90 minutes from San Francisco and San Jose and 1 hour and 15 minutes from Sacramento, CA. City population is 250,000+ with all the local amenities in town.
  • Larger hospital has 460 beds and is a busy transfer center. They have a comprehensive stroke center and are soon to be a level 1 trauma center. Other facility is a 209-bed community hospital with lower census.
  • Group has one opening for a Nocturnist who comfortable cross covering in the ICU is as well
  • Group is unable to sponsor visas.
  • EMR is Cerner
  • Physicians must be Board Eligible/Certified and have a CA license and DEA to practice. Open to Internal Medicine and Family Medicine training.
  • Ideal candidates will be able to start in the next 4-6 months.

Nocturnist opening

  • At the larger facility, the shifts can vary from 5 pm 5 am or 7 pm 7 am. Shifts are essentially all admitting.
  • Pay is based on an RVU model with pay being a minimum of $2,000 per night shift and some opportunities exceeding $2,500 per night shift. Pay is dependent on shift and location
  • APP s answer pages and go to rapid responses. Supervision of APP s is expected.
  • Normal admissions are about 20-25 per night split between the two nocturnists on duty.
  • Smaller facility offers shifts from 7 pm 7 am. There is a daytime admitter here until 9 pm.
  • Usually, 7-10 admissions per night plus covering the floor and ICU.
  • No procedures required as ED will help with codes, intubations, and lines, etc and one site has 100% ICU coverage. Vent management is very minimal intensivists available for assistance/advice with complex cases

  • Group paid long-term disability insurance, paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage as well as paid licensing and DEA costs.
  • 401K available from day 1. After one year the group contributes 7% of wages up to the max allowed by the IRS. This contribution is regardless of whether the employee contributes or not.
